It's hard to admit that your startup isn't performing very well. Should it still exist, or is it time for a postmortem? While it was pretty obvious that Mintmade - turns articles into NFTs - was not going to become the next unicorn, I was still hoping it would find its way to sustainability. Well... it is sustainable; with our 20% cut, we're at least covering infrastructure bills. The problem with shutting down this kind of startup is that it is: 1. Your precious babies, no matter what. 2. Potentially historic. 3. Incredibly lovable. 4. Still functioning. You can't simply kill what you've built with such passion. But when I look at Mintmade now, I think that this venture could be much more successful and powerful in someone else's hands. I know it can barely stand on its feet, but I feel almost happy when I receive a notification that a new article was sold. Sure, it's not a big deal in business terms, but it feels like a heartbeat. If it has a heartbeat, it's still alive—that's what I believe. What would you do with Mintmade? Leave it as is? Pivot? Shut it down? Currently, the product is fully autonomous. There are no marketing managers, support staff, or technical team. There is only the idea that people form a unique emotional connection with things they pay for. By offering them a way to purchase news articles, we give them a chance to engage with the moment in a new way.
