One year ago, we launched The Matcha Initiative Thailand Chapter, aiming to replicate the success of The Matcha Initiative movement in #Singapore. We need to face the facts. Globally: 🌎 There are an estimated 𝟱.𝟮𝟱 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 in our oceans. About 269,000 tons float on the surface, while 4 billion microfibers per km² dwell below. 📉 Approximately 70% of marine debris sinks into the ocean’s ecosystem, 15% floats, and 15% lands on our beaches. 🏖️ In the past decade, we’ve produced more plastic than in the entire previous century. 🕰️ Thailand: 🇹🇭 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱’𝘀 𝟲𝘁𝗵 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿, Thailand releases about 51,000 tons of uncollected and improperly disposed plastic waste into the sea each year. However, TANAPAKAROT TIAWPRADIT, CEO of Ocyco, is confident that ecosystems can be restored 🌊 With this in mind, she launched Ocyco to address this goal through a sustainability-driven business model.
