Download & send emails as attachments

​You can download emails directly to your computer. Once downloaded, you can attach an email to another email.

  1. On your computer, go to Gmail.
  2. Open the email.
  3. Click More .
  4. Click Download message.
Important: To open the EML file that downloads, you need a desktop mail client.

Attach & send downloaded emails

  1. Click Compose.
  2. At the bottom, click Attach files Attach files.
  3. Select the file and click Open.
  4. Click Send.

You can also forward emails as attachments or reply with an attached email. When you send emails as an attachment:

  • You don’t need to download the email.
  • It becomes an .eml file.
  • You can attach as many emails as you want.
  • If the file size is over 25 MB, it attaches through Google Drive.

Forward an email as an attachment

  1. On your computer, go to Gmail.
  2. Next to each email you want to forward, select the checkbox.
  3. At the top, click More and then Forward as attachment.
  4. In the “To” field, add recipients.
    • Optional: You can add recipients in the “Cc” and “Bcc” fields.
  5. In the “Subject” field, add a subject.
  6. Under the “Subject” field, write your message.
  7. At the bottom, click Send.

Tip: To forward an email as an attachment, you can also:

  • Right-click an email.
  • Drag and drop the file into the body of your message.

Reply with an attached email

  1. On your computer, go to Gmail.
  2. Open the email.
  3. Click Reply .
  4. At the top right, click Open in a pop-up .
  5. From your inbox, select the email you want to attach.
  6. Drag the email into the body of your message.
  7. At the bottom, click Send.
