Set up Gemini LTI™ in Canvas by Instructure

This article is for administrators.

To set up Gemini LTI™ in Canvas:

  1. Turn on Google Workspace LTI™ service in the Admin Console.
  2. Turn on Gemini service in the Admin Console.
  3. Turn on Gemini LTI™ in Canvas:
    1. Turn on Google Gemini as an authorized external tool.
    2. Add Google Gemini as an application to Canvas.

These steps might require assistance from your Learning Management Systems (LMS) administrator.

  1. In Canvas, sign in as an administrator.
  2. Click Admin and then Developer Keys.

    • Tips:
      • If you don't have the “Developer Keys” option, you might not have administrator privileges to enable the tool.
      • To complete the installation on your own, add Gemini LTI™ as an application to Canvas by Instructure. If it fails and says the key is disabled, you need a Canvas root account admin to complete these steps.
  3. In “Developer Keys,” click Inherited.

  4. In “Inherited,” next to “Google Gemini,” click On.

    • Tip: To find “Google Gemini” on the list, scroll to or click Show All Keys.
  5. Copy “170000000001911” to your clipboard to use when you add Gemini LTI™ as an application to Canvas by Instructure.

  1. In Canvas, sign in as an administrator.
  2. Click Admin and then Settings.

  3. Click Apps and then View App Configurations.

  4. To set up the Gemini LTI™ tool, click App.

  5. Under “Add App,” in ”Configuration Type,” select By Client ID.

  6. In the “Client ID” field, enter or paste “170000000001911.”
  7. Click Submit.

  8. Click Install.
