Annotate PDFs with a stylus or freehand on Android

Important: This feature requires Android 6.0 Marshmallow or up.

On your Android device, you can use a stylus or your finger to annotate PDFs in the Google Drive app.

Annotate PDFs on Android

  1. On your Android Device, open the Google Drive app.
  2. To enter preview mode, open the PDF you’d like to annotate.
  3. At the bottom right corner, tap the annotate button .
  4. A toolbar opens with multiple annotating tools. You can use a stylus or your finger to select an annotating tool.
    1. Tip: You can tap and hold the toolbar to snap it to any side of the screen.
  5. You can save the original PDF or make a new copy with a new name. If you save the new copy with a new name, the original copy remains unmarked.

Annotating tools

Marker or pen
  1. Choose the brush size and colors.
  2. Use freehand strokes to annotate or mark over the PDF.
Highlighter
  1. Choose the brush size and colors.
  2. To highlight, use a wider brush tool with freehand strokes.
Eraser
  • To erase any individual line you create, wipe through the line.
Undo  or Redo 
  • Undo or redo any action on the PDF.
Show or hide  annotations
  • To show or hide all annotations, select Show annotations  or Hide annotations .
