Edit & format a spreadsheet

You can add data to a spreadsheet, then edit or format the cells and data.

Edit data in a cell

  1. Open a spreadsheet in the Google Sheets app.
  2. In your spreadsheet, double-tap the cell you want to edit.
  3. Enter your data.
  4. Optional: To format text, touch and hold the text, then choose an option.
    • To insert a new line, click Insert line break or press Ctrl + Enter.
  5. When done, tap Done Done.

Undo or redo an action

To undo or redo your last action while editing or formatting data, go to the top of the screen and tap:

  • Undo Undo.
  • Redo Redo.

Format one or more cells

  1. Open a spreadsheet in the Google Sheets app.
  2. Tap a cell, then drag the blue markers across nearby cells you want to select.
  3. Tap Format Format.
  4. In the "Text" tab, choose an option to format your text.
    • Bold Bold
    • Italic Italic
    • Underline Underline
    • Strikethrough Strikethrough
    • Left text align Left text align
    • Center text align Center text align
    • Right align Right text align
    • Top align Top align (vertical)
    • Middle align Middle align (vertical)
    • Bottom align Bottom align (vertical)
    • Text size, color, and style
    • Text Rotation
  5. In the "Cell" tab, choose an option to format your cell.
    • Cell fill color
    • Alternating colors
    • Borders
      • Cell border
      • Border style
      • Border color
    • Wrap text
    • Merge cells
  6. Tap the sheet to save your changes.
