Brand Controls and verification

About Brand Controls

With Brand Controls, you can customize brand safety controls to flag content based on a website’s content type, location, or domain. Using those criteria, Campaign Manager 360 can block ads from serving in places that are not brand-safe for your business.

Brand Controls is replacing Verification in Campaign Manager 360. Custom sensitive categories and email alerts will no longer be available.

Benefits

  • Display ads in brand-safe locations
  • Deliver quality, targeted results
  • Report on blocked impressions

How it works

You can set the criteria to allow or block ads from serving by editing your account, campaign, or advertiser settings. On the “Brand Controls” page, you can see the percentage of brand safety coverage for your campaigns, advertisers, placements, and sites.

Ad blocking

If ad blocking is not enabled, you can still edit the brand safety controls, but ads will not be blocked from serving. Learn how to enable ad blocking.

Set brand safety controls

There are four types of brand safety controls in Campaign Manager 360. The following table describes and provides an example for each control:

Control How the control works Example
Sensitive categories Prevent ads from serving near content that are inappropriate or not brand-safe for your business. Learn about sensitive categories. If your business advertises rental cars, you might select Transportation accidents to prevent your ad from serving near content about car crashes.
Digital content labels Prevent ads from serving near content for audiences that are inappropriate for your brand. Learn about digital content labels. If your business sells children’s toys, you might select DL-MA to prevent your ad from serving near content for mature audiences.
Geography blocking Prevents ads from serving in countries, states/regions, or DMA regions that are not allowed. Learn more about geography blocking. If you own a restaurant in Ontario, you might select Canada to only show your ad within the country.
Domain blocking Prevents ads from serving on domains in the flagged list. Allows ads to serve on domains in the allowed list, even if other controls block that domain. Learn more about domain blocking. If example.com contains flagged sensitive categories, you might add example.com to your allowed list and override other brand controls.

Report on Brand Controls

You can generate an instant report directly from the “Brand Controls” page. The report will include information on blocked ads due to brand safety controls, problems with publishing, and issues with tags. Learn more about reporting with Brand Controls.

Limitations

Unsupported ad types

In-stream video, VPAID, and in-stream video redirect creatives may have reduced availability for features that rely on VPAID, such as Active View and Campaign Manager 360 Verification, based on how the publisher serves video ads. For these creative types to support measurement, you must have Active View enabled in in-stream video placement settings.

  • In-stream video creatives: Available if the publisher supports VPAID or uses the IMA SDK to serve video ads.

  • In-stream video redirect creatives: Available if the publisher supports VPAID or uses the IMA SDK to serve video ads. You also need to set the VPAID measurement adapter in your placement in-stream video settings to "On" and cannot use the “Let Campaign Manager 360 decide” option. This prevents Campaign Manager 360 from sending a blank tag if a publisher does not support VPAID..

  • VPAID creatives: Available if the publisher supports VPAID or uses the IMA SDK to serve video ads.

You can check with your publisher to see if these features will be available for their site.

  • Search Ads 360 ads and VPAID ads: unsupported or have limited support in Brand Controls
