Set up Chrome browser user-level management

Manage user profiles on Chrome browser

For administrators who manage Chrome policies from the Google Admin console.

Available with Chrome Enterprise Core, Google Workspace, Chrome Browser Enterprise Support, Chrome Enterprise Upgrade, ChromeOS devices bundled with Chrome Enterprise Upgrade, and Cloud Identity.

With Chrome Enterprise Core, admins get exclusive access to the Managed profiles list and details view in the Admin console. This offers easier and faster access to managing Chrome profiles from the console.

As a Chrome Enterprise admin, you can enforce policies from your Admin console that apply when users sign in to Chrome browser on any Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, or iOS device -- not just on corporate managed devices. Do this to manage user-level Chrome browsers and profile reporting, as well as sync users' work apps, home tabs, themes, and other settings when they use Chrome browser on both their personal and work devices.

Requirements

  • Users must have managed accounts in your Google Admin console, such as with Google Workspace, Chrome Enterprise licenses, or Cloud Identity.
  • You can only apply policies to user accounts that are part of a domain-verified account. If you are using an email-verified account, you have to verify your domain to unlock this feature.

Setup steps

  1. Move users to an organization unit (optional)
  2. Turn on Chrome browser management (Android and iOS)
  3. Turn on profile reporting
  4. Force users to sign in to Chrome browser (optional)
  5. Set user-level policies in your Admin console

When you're done

  • Policies set for managed Google Accounts are enforced when users sign in to Chrome with their account, on any device.
  • If there's a conflict between a user policy set in the Admin console and a device policy set, for example, using Windows Group Policy, the device policy takes precedence. For details, see Understand Chrome policy management.
