Fix sync problems with the Google Calendar app

Use this page if events you created or updated aren't showing on your computer or in the Google Calendar app.

First, try these common fixes

Follow these steps on the device you're using the Google Calendar app on.

1. Make sure you're connected to the Internet

To test if you're connected to the Internet, try doing a search.

If you're not connected, make sure that data or Wi-Fi is on, and that you're not in Airplane mode.

2. Check that you're using the Google Calendar app

To check that you're using the Google Calendar app, make sure the app's icon looks like this: Calendar.

Next, check your device's app store to make sure the Google Calendar app is up to date.

3. Check that the calendar is visible
  1. Open the Google Calendar app Calendar.
  2. In the top left, tap Menu Menu.
  3. To the left of the calendar's name, make sure the box is checked.
4. Make sure new events are being added to your Google Calendar

When you create an event, check which calendar it's being added to. If it isn't being added to the Events calendar, you may not find it in the Google Calendar app or at calendar.google.com.

  1. Open the Google Calendar app Calendar.
  2. In the bottom right, tap Add Create event.
  3. Next to the event icon Event, look for "Event."
    • If it doesn't say "Event," tap the event icon Event to switch to the correct calendar.

Next, try these troubleshooting tips

Try the steps above first. If they didn't work, read through these instructions on your computer while you try the steps on your device.

Note: The Google Calendar app syncs past events up to one year.

Quit the app & reopen it

When you have an app open and tap the Home button, the app is closed but it doesn't actually quit.

To fully quit the app (and not just close it), double tap the home button at the bottom of your phone, then swipe the Calendar app away.

Remove your account, then add it again

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Calendar app Calendar.
  2. At the top right, tap your profile photo.
  3. Tap Manage accounts on this device and then Remove from this device and then Remove.

When you reopen the app, you'll be prompted to add your account again.

Uninstall & reinstall the app

  1. Find the Google Calendar app icon Calendar.
  2. Touch and hold the icon until it wiggles.
  3. Tap Remove App and then Delete App.
  4. Reinstall the Google Calendar app in the App Store.

Sync with Apple Calendar or Outlook

If you're trying to find your Google Calendar events in another program, like Apple Calendar or Outlook, the instructions for syncing are different.
