About Calendar Interop

As an administrator, you can use Calendar Interop to allow Microsoft Exchange and Google Calendar to work together. Users in both systems share their availability status so everyone can view each others' schedules.

Administrators can...

  • Turn on Calendar Interop for a domain.
  • Allow Calendar users to book Exchange calendar resources, such as meeting rooms, when they schedule a meeting.
  • Use automated tools to verify setup.
  • View error messages and suggestions for resolving those errors.
  • Track cross-system user requests for availability information in the Google Admin console.

Calendar and Exchange users can...

  • View availability information of users, group or team calendars, and calendar resources (such as meeting rooms) across systems.
    • Both availability and additional event information lookups are supported. For availability, only busy blocks are visible to users. For additional event information, only titles and locations of events are visible to users.
    • Calendar information can be viewed for meeting participants across systems when scheduling events (for example, using the "Find a time" option in Google Calendar or the "Scheduling Assistant" in Exchange). Additionally, users of Exchange 2016 or newer can add calendars to Google Calendar within their main view.
    • Important: Calendar Interop respects event-level privacy settings. If an event is marked as private in Exchange, the event's details are not visible in Google Calendar. Similarly, if an event is marked as private in Google Calendar, its details are not visible in Exchange.
  • Book Exchange calendar resources (such as meeting rooms) when creating events in Google Calendar.
  • Use Calendar Interop with Google Calendar on Android, Apple iOS, and web clients.
  • Use Calendar Interop with Microsoft Exchange 2016 or newer, or Exchange Online (Microsoft 365) clients (including computer, mobile, and web Outlook versions).
