*Assistant - After School Program for Children Kindergarten - 5th Grade*
Working with the Site Director, the Assistant leads after school and summer camp activities for a group of up to 30 Kindergarten through 5th grade students in the Perry neighborhood.
Activities will include overseeing indoor and outdoor play and sports including soccer and basketball, walking to Grant Park with staff and children.
Serving snacks, and facilitating games, arts and crafts, cooking projects, and cleaning of the facility.
The after school program runs on Monday, Wednesday and Friday until June 5, 2024
Staff hours: 2:30pm to 5:30pm.
*Assistant – Summer Camp for Children, Kindergarten - 5th Grade*
Summer Camp is scheduled for July 9 through August 8, 2024, on Tuesday and Thursday.
Staff hours: 10:30am – 3:30pm.
Activities include with additional LPCDC staff, walking with children from LPCDC to Liberty Park and back to LPCDC.
Overseeing children in the Liberty Park Library, park grounds and swimming pool.
*Roles and Responsibilities:* Encourage educational, social, and individual growth in the lives of at-risk youth in an east central neighborhood of Spokane.
Assist with occasional social/educational events at the community center (approximately 2-4 per month).
Implement all operating policies, procedures, and directives to ensure security and protection of children and staff.
Assist the Director as needed.
Use appropriate and positive guidance, language and role modeling.
Consult with the Director on concerns or challenges.
Establish positive communication between staff, parents, and youth.
Always maintain strict confidentiality.
Other duties as deemed appropriate by the Director.
Hands on experience working with children both indoors and outside, teaching them skills including sportsmanship, academic and computer skills.
Interacting with their families at special events.
Experience working with children and families from other parts of the world.
If you are interested in teaching, social work or coaching you will gain valuable first-hand experience in this position.
*Qualifications:* We are looking for a person with a passion for working with and building relationships with young people.
If you need on-site hours for educational credits/requirements we will work with you to achieve your required goals.
This position requires patience, positive modeling and the willingness to help children learn these life skills.
We need an emotionally self-aware individual with patience and graciousness to join our team.
The preferred candidate would have some training and/or experience in classroom management.

*Physical Requirements:* This position requires a high degree of physical activity.
Candidates must be able to lift 50 lbs.
on a regular basis, as well as walk 2/3 mile.
Candidates interact with school age children through outdoor and indoor activities including being part of a supervising team that walks with children to and from grant or Liberty Park and during summer camp, takes them swimming at Liberty Park pool.

*Experience:* One year prior experience working with school-age children is preferred.
Leadership abilities, creative lesson planning, classroom management, emotional awareness.
*Pay:* $17 - $19 per hour based in experience
