@UNDPinSierraLeone with funding from European Union in Sierra Leone awarded grants totalling $500,000 and signed agreements with 2 Fintech firms to develop financial products and 5 incubators to support informal enterprises & entrepreneurs in Sierra Leone. Congratulations to MiKashBoks and SmartSystems ,for receiving a grant of $150,000 each to create innovative financial products for informal businesses and encourage their formalization. InnovationSL , @Projects1835, eWomenSierraLeone #lifebydesignsl, and Creative Hub Africa are the five incubators , awarded $40,000 to support start-ups and early-stage innovators. The grants are awarded through the "Supporting Informal Enterprises Transition Towards Sustainable Growth and Formalization,” project , implemented with @Ministry of Trade and Industry Sierra Leone UNDP in Sierra Leone and International Labour Organization.

Today, the Government of Sierra Leone, through Ministry of Gender and Children's Affairs-SL, launched the 'Real Man Campaign' to mark the 16 Days of Activism Against #GBV. The campaign aims to engage men in preventing and responding to #GBV. It was officially launched by First Lady Fatima Maada Bio who emphasized the progress made by the government of Sierra Leone in freeing women from societal constraints and ensuring they have a rightful place in our society. . #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #GBVPrevention

Empowering Journalists & Influencers in Sierra Leone! @UNDPSierraLeone and BBC Media Action have joined forces to combat misinformation and promote media literacy. Over 60 journalists and influencers are now equipped with advanced fact-checking skills, thanks to a recent training ¹ ². This initiative is part of the iVerify platform, a joint project by the European Commission and UNDP to fight information pollution ¹. With the support of partners like the UN Peacebuilding Fund, Ireland, Canada, Iceland, and the European Union, this programme aims to promote a culture of truth and accountability in Sierra Leone's media landscape . Key highlights of the ·      Enhanced Fact-Checking Skills: 60+ journalists and influencers trained. ·      iVerify Platform: Combining human expertise and technology to combat misinformation ·      Partnership: BBC Media Action, UNDP Sierra Leone, and international partners. Today, Sierra Leone took a major step towards sustainable marine resource management with the official launch of its Blue Economy Strategic Framework, National Action Plan, and Communications Strategy, led by the @Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MOPED). Supported by UNDP Sierra Leone these frameworks aim to harness the potential of our marine resources while protecting our coastal ecosystems for future generations. UNDP Sierra Leone's , Team Leader for the Sustainable Growth Cluster, Madam Tanzila Wata Sankoh , extended warm congratulations to the government and people of Sierra Leone for this crucial milestone toward a more resilient and prosperous blue economy.

Today, the Ministry of Trade and Industry launched a National Action Plan to formalize Sierra Leone’s informal sector. In partnership with @UNDPSierraLeone, @ILOAbuja, and funded by @EUinSierraLeone with support from @PressACP, this plan is set to drive economic growth, create new job opportunities, and empower entrepreneurs across the country. Together, we are working towards a more inclusive and sustainable economy for all Sierra Leoneans.
