📌 Дізнайтеся більше про Українську програму Платформи та заборону пропаганди війни за посиланням: https://lnkd.in/dYAp7qjk ------------------------------------- 🇬🇧 Today, our Ukraine programme submitted a criminal complaint at the Office of the Prosecutor General of the Slovak Republic on behalf of a victim from #Ukraine, alleging the criminal responsibility of Vladimir Rudolfovich Solovyov based on Art. 417 of the Criminal Code of the Slovak Republic, the crime of threatening peace. We allege that the Russian national is responsible for inciting war, promoting war or otherwise supporting war propaganda. The Criminal Code of the Slovak Republic enables the prosecution of war propagandists based on the principle of universal jurisdiction. The criminal complaint provides an interpretation of Art. 417 based on the international human rights law framework, namely the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and its ban on war propaganda, and includes an extensive list of public statements made by the Russian national in his capacity as a TV presenter and broadcaster amounting to prohibited war propaganda. In the criminal complaint, we argue that war propaganda forms an inherent part of the Russian war effort. It affected and still affects the rights and legally protected interests of the victim we represent. 📌 Learn more about the Ukraine programme of the Platform and the prohibition of war propaganda at: https://lnkd.in/dYAp7qjk #accountability #victims #warpropaganda #Slovakia

🔎 Insights into our latest publication 🔎 #Kazakhstan’s 🇰🇿 adoption of the new Law on Action Against #HumanTrafficking in early July marks a significant milestone in the country’s anti-trafficking efforts. Over recent years, Kazakhstan has ratified several key international agreements, including the Palermo Protocol, and has collaborated with other nations to strengthen its approach to preventing and addressing trafficking in persons. In her article, Lova Jansson examines gaps in Kazakhstan’s efforts to combat trafficking. She notes that the relatively low number of trafficking convictions indicates ongoing shortcomings in the counter-trafficking system. Lova’s analyses reveal that, while the government has partnered with NGOs involved in victim protection, funding for these organisations is frequently inadequate. Civil society groups also report that limited access to data and information hampers effective advocacy and service provision. Moreover, issues such as poverty and inequality continued to fuel the vulnerability of the trafficking victims. Lova stresses the importance of increasing funding and collaboration with NGOs that support trafficking victims, enhancing monitoring systems, and ensuring #accountability across sectors, and recommends a comprehensive approach to address human trafficking more effectively. This includes promoting the detection of child trafficking by the new Mobile Teams by involving children-related authorities and by targeting places where child trafficking is likely to manifest. 📌 Issue 9️⃣ of #CentralAsia Programmeʼs #PeaceandSecurityMonitor is available for download here: https://lnkd.in/enHHhZjs 📌 Visit the website of our Central Asia Programme at: https://lnkd.in/dJBSRvYA

🔎 Insights into our latest publication 🔎 Since 2021, Central Asia has seen a significant increase in #Afghan #refugees, totaling 7,636 refugees and 3,075 asylum seekers by January 2024. Often lacking legal status, many of these refugees struggle to access essential rights and services. Saher Husain examines how Central Asian countries have responded to the Afghan refugee crisis and evaluates the extent to which these policies align with international refugee and #humanrights laws. Saher highlights that Afghan refugees face varying levels of legal protection depending on the host country. While #Tajikistan 🇹🇯 and #Turkmenistan 🇹🇲 have ratified the 1951 Refugee Convention, #Uzbekistan's 🇺🇿 failure to ratify this convention and Tajikistan's discriminatory laws against refugees continue to undermine the rights of Afghan refugees seeking protection in these primary host countries. To address these issues, Saher recommends that Central Asian countries work to align their policies and legal frameworks with international standards. This includes increasing transparency, ratifying essential treaties where they are lacking, and establishing stronger domestic laws. International organisations must also continue their critical role in addressing gaps in national policies by advocating for refugee rights and supporting local communities. Only through such coordinated efforts can the region fulfill its international commitments and provide meaningful protection to Afghan refugees and asylum seekers in need of safety and security.
