PacificLight Power Pte Ltd (PLP), a subsidiary of the MERALCO PowerGen Corporation (MGen), was awarded by the Energy Market Authority (EMA) the right to build, own and operate two power generating units that will provide 100 MW of Fast Start generation capacity by the second quarter of 2025. This supports Singapore’s call to ensure uninterrupted power when unexpected events occur in its power system. This recent development demonstrates PLP’s commitment to providing dependable power supply to meet the rising energy demands through strategic operational expansions while also producing low-carbon power generation as a liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant. “This award is a testament of PLP’s consistent reliable performance and its good record of being able to deliver as promised. It's probably worthwhile to remind ourselves on Malaysia's clean energy target as laid out in the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR). At present, only solar, hydro & bioenergy are included in the projected installed capacity mix. We've made to understand that the document is a living document (not cast in stone) and therefore providing us the opportunity to continue discussions on other viable technologies that can included in the next revision of NETR. Analyst says YTL Power International's Ranhill Group Utilities buy a strategic fit despite negligible near-term earnings impact KUALA LUMPUR: YTL Power International Bhd's move to increase its stake in Ranhill Utilities Bhd is seen as a strategic fit for the group despite insignifcant near-term earnings impact. "We believe it could be a strategic fit for YTL Power given its experience in both water treatment and power generation. This will further strengthen its footprint in Johor, where the company is also developing data centres and solar parks. As such, we expect synergies in the long run despite near-term earnings impact being rather insignificant given Ranhill is estimated to generate a net profit of RM47-55 million in financial year 2024 (FY24) forecast- FY26 forecast, which, at a 53.19 per cent stake, is less than one per cent of YTLP's FY25F net earnings," RHB Banking Group research said in its note today. The offer price of 99.5 sen a share represents a steep discount of 37 per cent to the last traded price of RM1.57 prior to the announcement, as Ranhill Utilities' share price has gained 76 per cent year-to-date. Valuation wise, it implies 27-24 times FY24F-25F (Dec) price to earnings ratop (P/E) as well as 1.6 times FY24F-25F (Dec) price-to-book value. RHB research deemed the P/E pricy, adding that YTL Power's P/E stood 14 times FY25 forecast. It reiterated its "Buy" call on the stock, while maintaining its RM6.68 a share. RHB research maintained its earnings estimates on YTL Power pending the completion of the acquisition. It remains positive over YTL Power's long-term earnings potential from its artificial intelligence-data centre (AI-DC) development, while the near-term catalyst will be the conclusion of the offtaker for its first 20MW (out of 100MW) AI-DC. On Earth Day 2024, AAIS is proud to share about the efforts of the Singapore aerospace industry in implementing solar energy, as part of Singapore's energy transition under the national Green Plan. Here are some findings from our recently released second Singapore Aerospace Industry Solar Adoption Report (2023), published in partnership with JTC Corporation. 🌞 The total installed capacity reached 42.3MWp in 2023, more than 2.1 times compared to 2020. 🌞 The number of solar installations leaped to a total of 48 as at 2023, up from the 17 in 2020. 🌞 Electricity generated by these installations is more than 30% of the grid electricity consumed by the industry. 🌞 Avoidance in carbon emissions per annum is equivalent to carbon absorbed by 888,181 mature trees. Malaysia’s SMP — the price of the most expensive marginal generator or plant needed to supply power to balance the market — averaged at 20.46 sen/kWh (Jan 1 to April 8, 2024) while LSS4 projects, which came online last year, had tariffs between 17.68 sen to 24.81 sen/kWh. In Singapore, the regulated electricity tariff stands at 1.046/kWh for 1H2024.

Sembcorp subsidiary enters joint development agreement for Southeast Asia’s ‘largest’ green hydrogen project Summary: Sembcorp Industries, via its subsidiary Sembcorp Utilities, has signed a joint development agreement with PT PLN Energi Primer Indonesia to establish Southeast Asia’s largest green hydrogen production facility in Sumatra, with an annual output of 100,000 metric tonnes.
