The public sector stands as the cornerstone in propelling AI transformation for the betterment of society – forward-looking agencies are already actively harnessing AI to scale its potential for public good. GovTech Singapore, the technology arm for the Singapore government, is leading this charge with LaunchPad, a comprehensive AI platform leveraging services like Microsoft Azure and OpenAI. LaunchPad empowers government agencies to explore AI's potential, access prototypes, and exchange insights. This collaboration has already yielded over 400 ideas and 20 prototypes, including Appraiser, a tool that is revolutionising testimonial writing for teachers. Meaningful collaborations with governments continue to be a top priority for Microsoft, as we focus on scaling AI innovations to uplift communities and drive positive change in the era of AI. I’m certain this is just the beginning of even greater things to come for transformative innovation in Singapore’s Public Service.

One of the challenges to AI adoption is fragmented data and systems. Singaporean telco M1 ditches 70 percent of legacy IT in cloud migration Part of multi-year transformation project Summary: M1, a Singaporean telco, is set to shut down up to 70% of its legacy IT systems by the end of 2024 as part of a multi-year digital transformation centered around cloud migration. Led by CEO Manjot Singh Mann, the telco has already transitioned all of its post-paid, pre-paid, and fiber broadband customers to cloud-based systems. M1’s journey toward becoming a cloud-native company began in 2019, and by 2021, it was already 90% cloud-native. The company adopted a greenfield strategy for its cloud migration, which involved building systems from scratch on the cloud. It also reduced its number of applications from 300 to just 30 and consolidated over 200 databases into a single data link. This transformation was facilitated by partners like Infosys and AWS, with M1 also utilizing platforms like Salesforce and Snowflake for its customer service, sales, and data management. The remaining 30% of legacy systems, focused on corporate applications, will eventually be decommissioned as part of the overall transition.
