They reflect how local groups of people communicate in a natural and personal way. 🔎Singlish falls into this category together with Spanglish, Frenglish or Hinglish. All these local flavors of English have been influenced by other languages and have borrowed some of their words or syntax. 👉Considering them is not only important to researchers in linguistics. It is also useful to language managers to hyperlocalize or customize content and products.

I recently read in The Straits Times that #Singapore was ranked the world’s 5th smartest city, according to the 2024 Smart City Index. In fact, Singapore was also the top Asian country on the list. Having lived here for 12+ years, I’ve witnessed the city’s remarkable digital transformation personally - to me, Singapore isn’t just keeping pace. It sets the pace in so many areas. The beauty of technology is that we can continue innovating even better solutions, to tackle new challenges or upgrade old processes. #AI will undoubtedly play a central role. The AI trailblazer initiative we launched alongside the Singapore government has shown us the wide variety of ways that private and public organizations can use #GenerativeAI to improve daily operations – whether that’s booking a badminton court to revolutionizing education through personalized lesson plans. As Singapore continues to explore AI potential, responsibly pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, it’ll be interesting to witness what new home-grown AI solutions will emerge.

#Singapore is well known globally for its #digital competitiveness, and I’m constantly inspired by the innovative spirit here. Last night, I had the privilege to attend a dinner hosted by Ministry of Digital Development and Information (MDDI), where the refreshed Smart Nation initiative was announced by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.  Hinging on the pillars of Growth, Community, and Trust,  Smart Nation 2.0 sets out to help Singaporeans navigate and thrive in the changing digital landscape, especially with rapid developments such as in the AI space. I firmly believe that tech should be inclusive of all and we need to ensure that everyone can confidently grasp these digital opportunities confidently. Aligned with the ‘Community’ pillar of Smart Nation 2.0, Google has also rolled out Project Relate in Singapore – an Android app designed to help people with non-standard speech connect with others and complete everyday tasks more smoothly. We’ve also been working with the Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore (MINDSG Ltd) to introduce the app to their beneficiaries and are encouraged at the impact that it has made to the lives of individuals like Allan - learn more about his story in the video below ⬇️ We’re eager to partner with more organisations to bring the benefits of the app to more people with non-standard speech.  AI has the potential to create an inclusive future, and Project Relate is just one step forward to leveling the playing field through technology. Time to back my claim: [skip to 🇲🇾 💪 for the facts] In July 2021, I left France and settled in Malaysia, Convinced it has all the essential elements to be Asia's next significant growth hub for the coming decade. Today's announcement from Microsoft - my favorite stock (MSFT) is a very strong signal on Malaysia potential. I started my career in China, where I lived for 8 years between 2005 and 2013. Then in France from 2013 till 2021. Disappointed by France and Europe with my wife we were looking for a country in Asia to move in for at least a decade. We had shortlisted a few: - China - Hong Kong - Malaysia - Singapore Since we speak chinese (mandarin) at home it was important for us that the country had chinese culture including chinese language. China was absolutely awesome between 2005 and 2013 when I was single and then married without kids but with 2 kids, we knew it would be difficult for many reasons. Hong Kong is a city that I enjoy, yet living there as a family of 4 might be a different story. Final shortlist: Malaysia and Singapore. One is already developed, limited and packed. 🇲🇾 💪 Malaysia on the other side has the perfect timing to grow and develop a bit like China did between 2000 to 2013: - Excellent geographic position - Plenty of land to develop - Lots of qualified/skilled people - Great digital administrative services - Simplicity to hire/recruit foreign talents - Excellent diplomatic and commercial relationships with China, Saudi Arabia, USA - Multicultural population, proficient in English and Chinese - Commercial balance evenly spread between economic zones, not dependant of one single country - Strong foundation in electronics and energy sectors - Excellent Logistic Performance Index in Asia (Ranked 4th behind Sg, Japan and S Korea) - Stable and dedicated government - Favorable currency value, offering competitive advantages in international markets Malaysia has everything needed to strive and become the major hub for business in Asia. This in turn will lead to more companies moving here and definitely generate strong growth for Microsoft services (Cloud, AI, ...). I'm not even part of Microsoft, and yet I'm thrilled by this news. Enterprise Architecture has always had a rocky existence in Asia (more so than any other region). While most people I spoke to acknowledge some need for it, it is usually the 1st group to be cut when the economy doesn’t go so well. When I look back at my experiences, I think it is because many “Architects” have evolved from engineers and solution designers and have some trouble making the leap to “architecture”. Therefore I decided to see how I can help in my own way. There are many books on modelling techniques, framework implementation and even certification guides, so i shall not duplicate those information. I decided to go back to basics and write about an overview of EA, how it got to where it is, cover some important frameworks, and most importantly what are the areas of architecture that make up a complete EA view and help folks starting out building up EA teams to understand the various perspective of EA. I also cover some important concepts on architectural thinking (moving from engineering to architecture ) and how to get started on architecture documentation, which I find pretty lacking these days 🤣. Discussing Singapore's demographic trends with my family member recently highlighted some key insights. Did you know that Singapore's Total Fertility Rate (TFR) is currently at 0.94, far below the replacement rate of 2.1? This challenge is not unique to Singapore - many countries are facing declining fertility rates and aging populations. Interestingly, Canada is also struggling with low TFRs and has resorted to immigration to address its labor market needs. It's a valuable lesson for policymakers and business leaders in Singapore and beyond: understanding demographic shifts and adapting strategies to mitigate their impact can be crucial for long-term success.

Having spent 6 months researching the 30+ skills intelligence platforms in the market, it's good to see TechWolf emerge in a key role as a skills data integrator. The skills-tech space is exciting, but complex and overcrowded. Many companies are glueing their skills transformations together with a combination of homegrown databases, HCM systems, and various bolt-on tools. Skills management works better when there are industry standards and portability, so a tool like Techwolf that acts as an intelligent center hub for skills data is a big step in the right direction. It should help lower the barrier to entry for more companies to explore the potential of #skills management.
