"With the growth, we didn't get corresponding productivity increases in our company." In an interview at #BrainstormAI in Singapore, Glean cofounder and CEO Arvind Jain shared that when he founded his previous company, Rubrik, he noticed a decline in productivity as the company grew compared to when it was a smaller organization. "We asked employees what was in the way of getting high productivity, and our surveys showed that people were really struggling to find information at work," he added. Singapore is an incredibly vibrant place that seamlessly fuses influences from all over to create a dynamic, modern country. This perfectly mirrors cloud transformations in the public sector, a key topic at GovInsider SaaS Day in Singapore. At this event, I had the pleasure to deliver a keynote presentation and be part of the panel to discuss these vital changes with Alex T. and CK Heng.   Here are some key takeaways from this conversation: - Be sure to align SaaS adoption with overall strategy to ensure costs translate to business value. - It's vital to keep operations running smoothly while upgrading to the cloud. - Leader buy-in is essential to establish a unified vision for the team. - Change management is crucial for team buy-in and guiding a team towards desired SaaS goals. - Remember, it’s a marathon, not a sprint. Digital transformation is a journey, and no two journeys look alike.   If I were to give one piece of advice for cloud transformations, it would be to dismantle the traditional vendor-buyer relationship. AWS deepens commitment to Singapore with additional SG$12 billion investment by 2028 and new flagship AI programme. What does this mean? 1. A new flagship AI programme called "AWS AI Spring" for up-skiling, adoption, co-funding and R&D. 2. Doubling the existing cloud infrastructure to more than S$23 billion by 2028 - contribute S$23.7 billion to Singapore’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and 12K jobs. 3. AWS data centers becoming water positive (water+) by 2030, returning more water to communities than it uses in its direct operations. #AWSSingapore

Simple message but convoluted presentation - 20% of "foreign" firms employing 60% of "Singapore resident" earning gross monthly income exceeding S$12.5k (about S$175k 14-month-year), who are among top 10% of income earners in Singapore. Let's unpack this. #Singapore's per-capita GDP (PPP) was US$127k (Dec 2023, S$165k based on today's spot-rate, https://lnkd.in/gPDqwX5R), which kind of say that the quoted S$12.5k is just average Joe. Top 10%? but that rub the feathers in the right directions for many high ego yuppies, who are in that 10%. However, for bulk of the 80% non-foreign companies, this "average Joe" is not average on the ground. The distorting factor: Singapore's Gini (https://lnkd.in/g5vHXqNr, https://lnkd.in/gM377Zgb). Average is never a good statistical number for a skewed population, but is always depended on to explain anomalies in politics unfortunately. The struggles for the "real" non-foreign firms are keeping pace with the rising cost, decreasing man-power resources willing to work for, and affordable for non-foreign firms. Who are "Singapore resident"? According to (https://lnkd.in/gWtHuPZ6) : "A local (also known as resident) employee is any Singapore citizen or Permanent Resident who is employed by an employer under a contract of service or other agreement entered into in Singapore." As long as someone gets a permit to stay and work in Singapore, they are "residents". Make sense? Got that? This does not say Singapore citizens. So, depending on where you are coming from, digest this article appropriately. "Summarised" reportings are always written with key "theme", they are good for reading the "intentions", and shifting "winds". Reflecting on my keynote at the CIO Innovation Forum Singapore on November 28, I was truly inspired by the engagement of the CIOs present. Our discussion on integrating Generative AI (GenAI) into business processes resonated deeply with the audience. It's clear that when GenAI is seamlessly embedded into organizational workflows, it can unlock significant value, driving scalability, efficiency, and innovation.
