Friends, One year ago today, my financial planning and wealth management company, AnCap Financial, officially started accepting new clients. I’m happy to report that it’s been an exceptionally exciting and successful first year of operation. Currently, I am only 15 clients away from my maximum client goal, at which point I will become a referral only practice for the foreseeable future. With the proximity of this target in mind, I wanted to share more about what I do, and who I serve. I provide comprehensive financial planning and wealth management services to business owners and retirees for a flat-fee. Unlike most advisors, investments, while an important part of what I do, are a relatively insignificant part of my service model. Instead, I choose to focus on adding value to every part of my client’s financial circumstances including insurance, estate, investment, retirement, and especially tax planning. Because I handle so much, they can spend more time focusing on what they love – their families, businesses, and careers. In addition to my services being all-encompassing, my fee model is also relatively unique within my industry (by design) and could save you a significant amount relative to what you might be paying someone else. Excerpt: The bond market has undergone a significant shift in its prevailing narrative since the start of the year. Initially centered around a “Fed pivot”, where markets had anticipated a series of rate cuts in 2024, the focus has now transitioned to a stance of “higher rates for longer.” From 150 basis points (bps) of Fed rates cuts expected at the start of 2024 for the year, the market is now expecting only 47 bp of cuts for the rest of 2024. This shift, driven by consecutive months of higher-than-expected inflation readings and signs of a still-resilient US economy saw bond yields rise across various maturities. Given tight credit spreads and an uncertain Fed easing timetable, carry would be an important driver of bond returns over the medium term. We favour Asian Investment Grade Bonds and believe that at current yields, investors can lock in good quality yield and benefit from diversification benefits at the same time. Historically, when yields of Asian Investment Grade bonds are above 5%, 12-month returns have been positive more than 80% of the time. The diverse investment universe of Asian Investment Grade bonds presents active managers with the opportunity to add alpha. Meanwhile, positive supply/demand dynamics are supportive of Asian bonds over the medium and long term.
