Really good article about the "Perceived Value Problem" that many CIOs face - particularly this time of the year when the 2025 budget discussions commence. In Southeast Asia, where economies are facing uncertain times ahead, many CIOs will have to argue for even moderate budget increases. Yet they face high expectations from their business and operational teams to facilitate clean data, accelerate automation and digitalization and implement AI for better prediction, faster service, stronger fraud detection and a higher degree of personalization. This means rationalizing legacy systems, licenses, and projects to make space in the budget and space to focus on data, digitalization and AI. And it means succinctly proving to the CEO and CFO the return on IT spending for the organization. It sounds easy but can be really, really hard. The emergence of CAIO as a leadership position for navigating the complexities and opportunities that AI presents has become a unique dilemma for organizations. On one hand, it helps reduce fragmentation of vision and departmental manpower. On the other, it can often overlap with other leadership responsibilities and lead to resource allocation conflicts. As someone with an outside perspective, I think the biggest benefit of a leading executive in charge is the facilitation of change management. 🎙 “How do you create value with the #Cloud being a destination and an enabler?” 🎙“The initial wave of cloud leverage & consumption has proceeded well. What’s the next stage and is the world geared for it?” These were some of the profound questions that came up at one of the panel discussions at the #AsiaTechXSummit, earlier this week. Titled 🔊 "Adapting to Tech & Evolving Trends: Asia’s Digital Enterprise Journey”, the panel featured the eminent Amitabh Sarkar , Chetan K. , Leemon , Liz Ortiguera, with the session being moderated by Gaurav Modi. Some of the key takeaways for me from the session were : ✅ Three critical challenges in cloud adoption are the quality of data, #governance #frameworks and the #innovationculture within organizations. ✅ The value captured by cloud technology is still in its nascent stages, presenting significant opportunities.
