𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄? The sweet scent of a baby may seem harmless, but for one family, it was a sign of a serious condition called Maple Syrup Urine Disease (MSUD). Maple Syrup Urine Disease (MSUD) is a rare genetic disorder where the body cannot properly break down certain amino acids (the building blocks of proteins). This leads to a buildup of these substances in the blood, which can cause serious health problems. It gets its name because the urine of people with this condition often smells sweet, like maple syrup. This rare genetic disorder can be managed with early intervention, such as leucine-free formulas. If you're a carrier of the affected genes and have a baby with a partner who's also a carrier, your baby has: • a 1 in 4 chance of developing the condition¹ • a 1 in 2 chance of being a carrier of MSUD¹ • a 1 in 4 chance of receiving a pair of normal genes¹ iGene Laboratory’s CarrierGene screens up to 787 genes, including the condition for MSUD.
