Fenacure is a widely used anthelmintic agent of the benzimidazole group in veterinary medicine. The medicine has a wide spectrum of action. Its active ingredient Fenbendazole (5-phenyl-thio-2-benzimidazole carbamate) has a wide spectrum of nematocidal and cestodocidal action. This drug is active against adult forms, larvae and eggs of nematodes of the gastrointestinal tract and lungs, as well as cestodes that parasitize animals. Most often, Fenacure is used for dogs. Also this medicine is used for cats and aquarium fish.

The mechanism of action of Fenbendazole is the destruction of microtubules in the cells of the intestines of helminths and disruption of the flow of energy processes, which leads to the death of parasites and their exit from the dog's body in a natural way.

When administered orally, Fenbendazole is easily absorbed in the intestine and distributed in the organs and tissues of the animal; excreted from the body in unchanged form and in the form of metabolites, mainly with bile and partly with urine, in lactating animals also with milk. According to the degree of impact on the body, they are classified as moderately hazardous substances, in recommended doses they are well tolerated by animals.

For puppies and kittens (over the age of three weeks), Fenbendazole is used once a day for three consecutive days in a single dose, which is 1 tablet per 3 kg of animal weight. In the case of using a suspension, attention should be paid to the concentration of the active substance in 1 ml, since different manufacturers offer solutions of different concentrations.

With increased individual sensitivity of animals to the active components of the drug (more often observed in cats than in dogs) and the appearance of allergic reactions, the use of the drug is stopped and antihistamine drugs are prescribed to the animal. Symptoms of an overdose of the drug have not been identified.

In powder form, Fenbendazole is used as an anthelmintic for aquarium fish. For obvious reasons, it is impossible to introduce medicine to fish in any way other than by adding it to the water in the aquarium. Fenbendazole for fish is produced in the form of a 22.2% powder. Fenbendazole (5-phenyl-thio-2-benzimidazole carbamate) acts as an active ingredient, and fodder bentonite, which is a natural mineral supplement, acts as an auxiliary special filler. The medicine looks like a homogeneous loose mass of light gray color. Fenbendazole is produced in jars of 100 and 500 g, which provides ease of use for owners of aquariums of different sizes.

In aquarium husbandry, it is mainly used in doses of 2 to 8 mg/liter, depending on the total hardness of the water. When Fenbendazole is introduced into the aquarium, the pH may rise by one to two degrees.

Do not expect a quick reaction to the active substance. And don’t try to transplant decor or residents to another aquarium, they can be carriers of worms.

For 2-3 days after the application of the medicine, the parasites will begin to stick to the walls of the aquarium, trying to escape from Fenbendazole. At this time, the fish will feed themselves with dying worms. Dead remains will eventually be consumed by snails and shrimp. Your aquarium will remain clean, and all the inhabitants in it will be healthy. There will be no negative effect from Fenbendazole on fish and other inhabitants of the aquarium. And if these parasites are in the water that you regularly change in the aquarium, add Fenbendazole during settling and your underwater inhabitants will always be healthy and no one will dare to hunt them anymore. Fenbendazole inhibits the enzymatic fumarate reductase system of the helminth, which leads to disruption of energy metabolism and death of the parasite. The action of Fenbendazole against nematodes is greatly enhanced in combination with Pyrantel.
