Description

The International Standards Organization is a global organization responsible for developing most of the modern international industrial standards.
ISO was founded in London in 1946 when 25 countries got together to address the issue of unifying industrial practices. The ISO began its work in Geneva, Switzerland in 1947 as a UN agency.

Today, the ISO consists of 162 countries with one member from each and has published more than 13,700 international standards.

ISO covers standardization in fields such as computers and data communications, but excludes electrical and electronic engineering which are governed by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and telecommunications governed by the International Telecommunications Union’s Telecommunications Standards Sector (ITU-TSS).
