Closed models and open models are becoming increasingly similar on MMLU. There are now far more important benchmarks, such as HumanEval or SWE. Nevertheless, there is currently a trend that the previously large gaps are no longer being maintained. And as long as GPT-5 does not again show similar jumps in all benchmarks as GPT-4 (shown below), further convergence is to be expected.

Yesterday the AI Commission, led by our former CEO Carl Henric Svanberg, launched the Roadmap for Sweden in an event in Stockholm School of Economics, with Prime minister Ulf Kristersson and Minister for Public Administration Erik Slottner. Ericsson has been engaged with CEO Börje Ekholm, and our focus has very much to ensure that technologies like AI, but also 5G and digital infrastructure, are fully utilized to secure Sweden’s competitiveness. The focus for the commission has been very much on public sector, but it is also key to support Swedish industry to fully utilize the benefits of AI. Now it is very much down to execution. Last week, I had an insightful discussion with Doctor Usama Nouri on innovation, leadership, AI, experience, and young people. When addressing the biggest obstacle for innovation, I emphasized the issue feeling not being empowered. In my view, the term 'empowered' can sometimes imply waiting for permission rather than proactively seizing opportunities. To drive innovation, one must embrace the mindset that being empowered equates to being too slow. (My motto: If you are on time, you are late!) It's crucial not to fear failure and avoid risks while waiting to be empowered. Earlier this week, the Swedish AI Commission's Roadmap for Sweden was presented to the Swedish Government, highlighting the need for political action and significantly increased investment in AI education, innovation, and ecosystem initiatives. Ericsson was represented in the Commission by Börje Ekholm.   One of the report's key insights is the vital role of telecom, particularly the expansion of 5G, in enabling AI-driven solutions. 5G‘s faster and more robust data transmission is essential for AI systems that require real-time processing of large data volumes. Accordingly, for the successful development of AI, it is crucial to achieve better 5G mid-band coverage and upgrade to 5G standalone (SA). With 5G SA, operators can tailor network capacity to specific customer needs, enhancing the reliability and stability of connections. This upgrade is necessary to introduce the new functionalities and services that future AI applications will require.   But this is not just a matter for Sweden. As other regions are racing ahead in the deployment of 5G mid-band and standalone networks, as well as in private investments in AI, it is crucial that actions are now taken on national and EU level to ensure market conditions that encourage investment in digital infrastructure. During Earth Week, I’m inspired by how, together with our customers, we are combining technology with sustainability to achieve our joint Net Zero ambitions. One of my favourite recent examples: in a trial, one of our customers deployed our triple-band, tri-sector 5G Radio 6646 and managed to reduce energy consumption by up to 40 percent. Following the successful trial, this technology is now being rolled out on a large scale in their network, with potential total annual electricity savings amounting to 30 million kilowatt hours. In our latest Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility report, we also announced achieving a 30% reduction in energy consumption at a typical new radio site compared to 2021. With this, we are well on our way to achieving our portfolio energy performance target of 40% reduction by 2025 – and work towards becoming Net Zero across our value chain by 2040. #EarthWeek #5G #ClimateAction
