Morrow Bank delivered another solid quarter with profit before tax of NOK 67 million in Q2, up 16% from the previous quarter. Highlights: 📈 Solid growth in most profitable markets: Total income of NOK 305 million in Q2, up 3.1%. 💰 Operating expenses remained stable, cost/income ratio at industry-leading 26% (27%). 🛡️ Credit risk control: Loan loss ratio down to 5.1% (5.2%). 💰 Higher returns: Pre-tax profit of NOK 67 million (vs NOK 58 million in previous quarter). Return on equity of 8.5% (7.4%). Commenting on the results, Morrow Bank’s CEO Øyvind Oanes said: "Following a successful turnaround, we have already exceeded our 2024 targets by improving our processes and streamlining our operations. In Q2 2024, Morrow Bank continued its positive development from the recent quarters, with solid underlying growth and operational performance." Morrow Bank delivers strong Q3 results and applies for Swedish banking license Highlights:  📈 Strong growth: All-time-high total income of NOK 321 million, up 5.2% 💰 Cost/income ratio at industry-leading 25.7% (26.3%) enabled by a scalable banking platform 🛡️ Credit risk control: Loan loss ratio declined for the third quarter in a row to 4.8% (5.1%) 💰 Increased profitability: Pre-tax profit of NOK 72 million (up 7%). Return on equity of 9.0% (8.5%) ➡ Application for Swedish banking license submitted: with conditions similar to Swedish peers, return on target equity could increase to 20% in the mid term.  Commenting on the results, Morrow Bank’s CEO Øyvind Oanes said:  "With a highly scalable banking platform in place, Morrow Bank delivered improvements across all KPIs in Q3 - which was very much line with our previously stated ambitions. Most remarkably, we managed to grow our loan balance by around 25% while reducing our cost base." Sweden’s largest fund manager, Swedbank Robur, will strengthen its investment teams with selective recruitments to ensure that “we will continue to deliver strong returns in the coming years,” the manager’s Head of Business Support & Strategy, Olof Neiglick, tells AMWatch. Robur, the fund company of Swedbank, had a modest Q3 in terms of new flows, lagging behind its main Nordic competitors, but Neiglick prefers to take a slightly longer-term view. “We saw profit-taking during the quarter in some of our most popular funds, but looking at the bigger picture, year-to-date sales are very strong, putting Swedbank Robur at a 16% market share,” he says. #assetmanagement #assetmanager #fundmanagement #fundmanager #investments #financialmarkets #bankingindustry #Nordics #wealthmanagement

The Scandinavian bank SEB announces an embedded banking partnership with a local retailer. Will it succeed? Finally, the news is out. It was highly expected that the banking-as-a-service unit SEB Embedded from Scandinavian bank SEB would announce their very first customer soon. And according to the rumours, this was likely going to be a retailer. And today, these are not rumours anymore but facts. SEB partners with one of the biggest Swedish retail chains Hemköp. The retail chain, which is owned by Axfood, says that this the very first step in their journey. Does this mean more financial services will follow? Personally, I am very excited about this announcement for two reasons. Firstly, this is a major retailer partnering with a major bank. In Europe, we do not have many banks that actively partner with unregulated companies for banking products. Thus, SEB Embedded itself is a really interesting project that I follow closely. Kudos to Christoffer Malmer, Charlotte Lagercrantz and team! With this announcement, SEB Embedded is not just a bank's innovative initiative but a provider with actual clients. Secondly, this is (another) major retailer launching a banking product. You probably remember Coop and their banking product, which was closed just nine months after its launch (check my newsletter and podcast for details). Especially in the podcast episode with Borut Hrobat, we spoke about the challenges of creating an actual 'embedded' experience.
