Swedish Gridly raises $2.6M seed to enhance content management operations Helsingborg-based Gridly has raised $2.6M (28 MSEK) in a seed round. The funding came from a variety of investors, including a major global games company, Nordic B2B software investor Subvenio Invest, and US-based digital media specialist Rendered VC , along with existing investors. Founded by Christoffer Nilsson and Mattias Wennerholm in 2022, Gridly aims to streamline the management of digital content, which has become increasingly complex and voluminous due to advancements in AI. The effort behind :Dribe's Billing System💡 In a recent post, we dove into the advantages of automating billing for subscription services. A driving force behind our advanced billing system is Anders Bast Olsen, BI Lead at :Dribe. He shares: "When you value flexibility and freedom of choice as much as we do at :Dribe, providing our customers with an open-ended subscription where they only pay for what they use is something we are extremely proud of. That said, in the wonderful world of bookkeeping and financial documentation, an open-ended subscription does entail (more than) a few requirements."📊 Anders further explains the complexities: "From the point of creation and start to the end of the subscription, one must be able to handle instant payment transactions as well as (partial) refund transactions. Simultaneously, rightful billing documents must be generated accordingly, which will even be subject to different national legislation. Lastly, adding the bookkeeping hereof to the equation wherein financial transactions take place pre, during, and post the subscription... This follows a €3.6m Series A funding round in 2021 led by OpenOcean and Spintop. Cambri, which focuses on using AI in consumer insights, plans to scale its market research operations. Venture is a tough business – how do we win in venture? Months ago, we sat down with Tom Henriksson, General Partner at OpenOcean, to dive into the world of venture capital and scaling groundbreaking software companies. From his pivotal role in growing MySQL into a billion-dollar exit to leading Nokia’s mobile ad business, Tom shares invaluable insights on what it takes to navigate the competitive VC landscape and drive success for data-driven software companies reshaping industries today. Here are some of the key takeaways: 1/ Domain Expertise & Specialization - Focus on Building REAL Businesses Tom emphasizes the importance of domain expertise, drawing from his personal experience in scaling businesses from the ground up. "We always focus on building a real business first with our portfolio companies," he shares. From his time leading an ad business at Nokia to investing in B2B and data software, his approach centers on helping portfolio companies build strong, revenue-generating businesses while prioritizing sustainable growth. This ensures solid outcomes for both the companies and the investment fund. 2/ Timing is KEY. While expertise is essential, Tom acknowledges the role of luck in timing and decision-making. However, he notes that practice increases the chances of success, "The more you practice, the luckier you get." Reflecting on his experience of losing his first four investments, he called it a "lesson learned," explaining, "we learned what portfolio theory is in practice the hard way." The silver lining? During that time, they successfully raised a fund with external investors, closing a 52 million FINmark fund — about €9 million in today's terms. It’s all about balancing the investment cycles. 3/ Follow-on Capital Strategy "In the companies in the portfolio that are doing really well, we should put in as much follow-on capital as we can." Tom advocates for a selective follow-on capital strategy that has proven effective in his investments. Roughly half of his initial investments receive follow-on funding, with additional capital allocated to companies showing strong growth.
