🛠️ New #OpenAccess Publication in Small Business Economics: An Entrepreneurship Journal 🔥HIGH INTEREST🔥 Steffen Paust, Steffen Korsgaard & Claus Thrane (2024) Entrepreneurial Prototyping: The Role of Purpose, Prototype Recycling, and Skills Bricolage Link: https://lnkd.in/dzDH7TYm Abstract: This paper explores how entrepreneurs engage in prototyping as part of the venture development process. We conduct a qualitative field study of 156 instances of prototyping across eight venture development processes. From a theoretical perspective, we build on alternative and complementary views of entrepreneurial action and their implicit modes of prototyping, emphasizing experimentation and transformation. Our findings identify three important themes in the prototyping process. These include purposes where the entrepreneurs use prototyping for either flexible experimentation or directed transformation. Further, the entrepreneurs predominantly engage in prototype recycling and skills bricolage when prototyping. Accordingly, the studied entrepreneurs carefully navigate purpose and resource investments in prototyping, making extensive use of their existing resource base of skills and prototypes. After noting the positive aspects of prototyping, we also discuss the potentially destructive outcomes of misapplied prototyping in the form of prototyping myopia and problematic path dependencies of the different ways of prototyping. Breaking the Silos: The Future of Marketing Departments The landscape of marketing is evolving rapidly, with an ever-increasing array of activities, channels, and content to manage. As a result, marketing teams have swelled with specialists, each focusing on their niche area. However, a recent report sheds light on a concerning trend: the majority of these teams operate in silos, hindering collaboration between specialists and generalists. This siloed approach leads to a disjointed focus, where each channel operates independently rather than contributing to the bigger picture. It's time for a paradigm shift. Instead of doubling down on platform-specific specialists, the new frontier calls for a more platform-independent approach. The key lies in collaboration across media and breaking down the barriers between channels. By fostering a culture of collaboration, marketing departments can harness the collective expertise of both specialists and generalists to drive comprehensive and cohesive strategies. The report suggests that this shift is not only necessary but also highly beneficial. A significant majority of respondents believe that marketing departments could operate more efficiently with improved collaboration. Yesterday, Christoffer Johnsen and Christian With attended The Norwegian Film School seminar on AI in the film industry https://lnkd.in/dpuCavZR 🖥️ 🎬 Very Insightful keynote talks by AI pioners such as Nik Kleverov from Native Foreign and Ian Bearcraft from Signal and Cipher, and several other AI experts within content creation. Christoffer Johnsen spoke on legal issues on national and international levels. Our key take- aways; ➡️ Humans will most likely not be replaced by AI in the creative processes (at least not in the foreseeable future); ➡️ AI- tools are improving rapidly and may reduce time spend in all phases of development and production; ➡️ The use of AI- tools in content creation is increasing substantially, and will most likely continue to grow exponentially; ➡️ The AI space is primarily driven by commercial stakeholders in the US and Asia, which may represent challenges from a regulatory- and price point perspective.

Happy share, I've received a new certification: Facilitating Change, organized by Aalto University. The themes in the course covered topics such as facilitating a shared vision, organisational transformation, lean + agile + design thinking, the role of tools and sprints in facilitation, and the concept of meta-skills and new kind of leadership. The course taught us to understand how to facilitate organisational change towards a more agile and lean organisation culture. We learned how to use simple diagrams as tools and boundary objects in facilitating conversations and clarifying objectives.

Digitalization has enabled entrepreneurs to adopt digital tools to create opportunities and reach customers in international markets. Yet, the understanding of international digital entrepreneurial marketing in the global marketplace is limited. Drawing on social network theory, the authors investigate how entrepreneurs’ social ties and firms’ international digital entrepreneurial marketing influence small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) internationalization. Based on multiple case study methodology, the results suggest that entrepreneurs’ bonding and bridging ties facilitate different dimensions of international digital entrepreneurial marketing. That further enhances the intensity and geographic scope of SME internationalization. SME internationalization also reinforces entrepreneurs’ accumulation of social ties. This study contributes to international marketing research by developing the dimensions of the international digital entrepreneurial marketing concept and exploring its important role in SME internationalization and has important managerial implications.
