I'm invited to an event with Ebba Busch, Deputy Prime Minister of Sweden: The focus of the event is how we can create optimal conditions for startups and scaleups in Sweden. The group of specially invited guests will have the possibility to hear more about the government's thoughts, and to ask questions to the minister. 21 years ago we started Creandum together with two investors, Skandia and Sjätte Ap-Fonden. We worked for more than a year to raise more capital but no one was interested which is why fund I was only EUR 30m. Today we announced Creandum VII, a EUR 500m fund, raised quickly, where half the capital comes from top US institutions. In fact, 5 out of the 8 largest US University endowments are Creandum investors which means, just like us, they are big believers in the European tech ecosystem. The other half comes primarily from European Pension Funds, some of Europe's most long term and sophisticated family offices and a few top global Venture Fund of Funds. I’ve just written an article exploring how Norway’s proposed exit tax could be a significant roadblock for its startup ecosystem. While its Nordic neighbors—Finland, Sweden, and Denmark—are thriving with innovative, multi-billion-dollar companies, Norway seems to be falling behind. This disparity raises the question: Are its policies inadvertently hindering innovation? Here's some more grist for the mill on that front: The country wants to tax founders on unrealized gains - which is... a great way to kill off the entire ecosystem, making it nearly impossible to build billion-dollar startups in Norway.
