Paving the Way for Positive Change in Maritime
This week, WISTA International proudly participated in 2nd meeting of the Joint ILO/IMO Tripartite Working Group to identify and address Seafarers’ issues and the human element at the IMO Headquarters from 27 to 29 February 2024 with the remit to focus on tackling bullying and harassment in the maritime sector, including sexual assault and sexual harassment, to ensure a safe workplace for seafarers.
The collective efforts of the Working Group have yielded substantial recommendations, particularly in the crucial areas of revising the STCW and formulating guidelines to accompany the ISM Code. This represents a pivotal step towards establishing a maritime environment that is not only safe but inclusive.
WISTA International was well-represented, with three dedicated delegates and a number of members attending through government representatives. This underscores our dedication to playing a vital role in the positive transformation of the industry.
As we reflect on these accomplishments, we extend our gratitude to all involved in this collaborative effort. WISTA International remains steadfast in its commitment to advancing a more secure and equitable maritime future, and we eagerly anticipate continuing this impactful journey together.
