Synch attended the International Association of Privacy Professionals’ (IAPP) Data Protection Congress in Brussels, one of the most significant events for privacy and cybersecurity professionals.  While snow was falling over Brussels Josefin Riklund, Elisavet Dravalou and Karolina Lindgren Pekkari, and over 3,000 fellow attendees engaged in sessions and discussions on the evolving landscape of data privacy and protection. This year’s Congress centred around the use of AI and how privacy, data protection and individual rights can be safeguarded. Some highlights: 🔑 AI & Privacy: Striking a balance between innovation and trustworthy AI is a priority in EU’s agenda. Many interesting sessions took place, from a high level elaboration on the AI Act to panel discussions about how industry key players react on the compliance requirements. Representatives of the AI Office also presented their agenda. Spoiler alert ‼️ The Code of Practice for systematic risks in GPAI modes is work in progress and soon to be published. 📜 Regulatory Developments: NIS II, DORA, and Data Act were also part of the agenda, with the interplay of these laws being the centre of many discussions. 🌐 Global Harmonization: Bridging regional differences in privacy laws is critical for cross-border data flows, with a focus on fostering trust and transparency. 🤝 Collaboration is Key: From privacy professionals to policymakers, fostering collaboration is essential to navigating challenges in an increasingly connected world. The Congress provided a valuable platform to discover practical solutions and emerging trends, ensuring Synchs stays at the forefront of the rapidly changing field of privacy, AI and cybersecurity.
