🌟 Upcoming research on integration of migrants in Sweden 🌟 Misum is glad to announce that affiliate Prof. Laurence Romani, along with Prof. Andrea Voyer and Dr. @Paolo Velásquez, have secured 6 million SEK in funding from Riksbankens Jubileumsfond for their new research project on “Solving the integration challenge of high-skilled migrants: the central role of merits”. ✨ This interdisciplinary study explores knowledge gap related to the integration of high-skilled labor migrants in Sweden. It challenges the idea of “meritocratic integration,” investigating how migrants' skills and qualifications are defined and valued. 🔮 Stay tuned for insights from this work! 👉 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/dQfkwDnc

🌍 Sustainability in Business Education: Leading the Way 🌍 We’re proud to see the Stockholm School of Economics featured in the recent Financial Times article on Europe’s and Sweden's leadership in sustainability education. A special shoutout to Anna Dibble MSc Finance student and Head of ESG at Alight, for showcasing how SSE equips students to integrate ESG principles into real-world business challenges. Her work on “double materiality” highlights the Nordic region’s innovative, hands-on approach to sustainability. 🌱
✨ An honor to be featured in the Financial Times Business Education report, included in yesterday’s European newspaper. ✨ https://lnkd.in/d__ETyMe With my career spanning both ESG and impact investing as well as corporate sustainability, the Nordics have always been on my radar as the “Silicon Valley of Sustainability.” My move to Sweden to join Alight, a fast-growing and leading Swedish solar developer, and pursue a Master’s in Finance at the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE), has been a truly defining experience. I shared my thoughts with the Financial Times on why Sweden and SSE stood out: * Sweden consistently ranks in the top three for nations' performance towards achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGIndex), and this global leadership extends to the stakeholder models and industry collaboration that many Swedish companies employ to drive environmental and social responsibility and enable positive change. * SSE is at the forefront of cultivating world-class research, teaching, and effectively guiding students, policymakers, and organizations on sustainable business and markets. At Alight, we help energy-intensive businesses across Europe transition to solar power through Power Purchase Agreements, I lead ESG and sustainability efforts to ensure we kick carbon off the grid in the most environmentally and socially responsible way possible. Between Alight and SSE, I’m energized daily by being at the forefront of sustainable innovation—where academic insights meet real-world action. The expertise I have gained from presentations on the upcoming wave of EU regulations and emerging international standards has kept me on top of the latest advancements in sustainability. As I lead Alight toward a future with the likes of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (#CSRD) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (#CSDDD) not to mention further developing Net Zero Strategies, the knowledge I've gained at SSE enables me to apply these insights in real-time, ensuring we stay ahead of sustainable business practices. I am beyond grateful to have engaged with a portfolio of seminal research and case studies on critical issues and techniques that guide companies toward more effective and responsible impact with Professors Lin Lerpold, Torkel Strömsten, Susanne Sweet, and Tommy Borglund, as well as grappled with a wide spectrum of investment approaches, methodologies, and frameworks for ESG materiality and performance with Jan Starmans and Emma Sjöström and many others at Mistra Center for Sustainable Markets (Misum) Also extending a big thank you to my wonderful colleagues at Alight, and to Seb Murray and Christian Åslund for this opportunity and for shedding light on the crucial role educators and business schools play in shaping future sustainability leaders. Here’s to continuing the journey of innovation, collaboration, and impact!

MISUM is excited to announce that the research project by affiliates Magnus Mähring and Anna Essén has been recognized as one of the most promising of the year by the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA)! 🌟 Algorithms increasingly guide public sector decisions, yet their impact on fairness is often overlooked. Researchers from Misum and House of Innovation at SSE have examined how public institutions may ignore the injustices of algorithmic decision-making. 💡New Misum Academic Insight: Foreign aid and female empowerment. ❓ Can foreign aid impact female empowerment? Can gender-focused aid enhance impact? Impact of foreign aid on female empowerment is under-explored with most studies focusing instead on economic growth, a few major donors or project-specific impact. This study by Misum affiliates Maria Perrotta Berlin, Anders Olofsgård & co-author Evelina Bonnier offers a first assessment of the community-level impact of foreign aid projects on female empowerment✨ The authors examine the effect of foreign aid on gender outcomes and attitudes in rural Malawi. Beyond aid in general, the authors also estimate the impact of gender-focused aid. The study uses geo-coded data from Malawi Government’s Aid Management Platform, covering projects from 2004 to 2010. Data of 44,420 individuals in the Malawi Demographic and Health Survey is analyzed. Key Findings: 👉 Aid has a positive, though modest, impact on several dimensions of female empowerment. 👉 Gender-targeted aid provides amplified benefits. 👉 However, prevailing community characteristics can modulate the effect of aid. In patrilinear communities, positive impact disappears. 🔮 These findings highlight the need for gender-focused investments and tailored project design and placement that account for the local community context. ➡️ Read the Academic Insight here: https://lnkd.in/dH93s5_W ➡️ Read the full paper here: https://lnkd.in/daSxcpRB

🌟 Misum is proud to announce that Friederike Döbbe, our affiliate and PhD graduate, has been awarded the prestigious Oscar Sillén Award for best doctoral thesis in business administration. 🌍 Her work reveals a growing trend of placing responsibility for sustainable practices on consumers, a shift that can hinder effective climate action by focusing on individual choices rather than institutional or collective changes.
