Meet the Students - Class of 2025: Lea Kristin Fischer || "Hej, I‘m Lea :) I graduated from German law school last year and was so excited to be admitted to the EIPL programme at SU. This specific IP master’s programme was a top contender for me mainly because of its scholars, course contents and, admittedly, the fact that I could be living in Stockholm for some time. So far, I have gained so much knowledge about the area of law that I have always been most interested in and realised that I - indeed - need to invest in my own signature embellished pins I can wear with my knits in winter (thanks for the inspo to my professor!). Looking very much forward to everything that‘s to come during the rest of the programme while, however, missing my cat at home very dearly.“

Meet the Students - Class of 2025: Leon Gontcharov || "Hej, I am Leon from Germany. My interest in IP law grew during my studies at the University of Freiburg, where I was drawn to how law protects creativity and innovation. Internships at law firms focusing on trademarks and patents reinforced my passion for this field and inspired me to pursue the LLM in European Intellectual Property Law at Stockholm University. What I like the most are the program’s practical elements, like the “Meet the Professionals” series and the Moot Court, which provide valuable insights into real-world IP practice. From wandering the islands and green parks to exploring the ABBA Museum, I can not wait to experience all this city offers.“

Meet the Students - Class of 2025: Constantin Berlage || "Hej, I am Constantin, from Germany! I have studied IP already as part of my law studies in Berlin and I had the luck of getting into the area of art and design law quite early. So this LL.M. seemed the perfect choice to further my education and combine my job with my interests. While here in Stockholm I have been inspired by the city’s calm mood: I have met a vibrant community of other meditators and taken up to sit every day.“

Today we learned from Hans Eriksson, Managing Partner at Westerberg & Partners how to draft a copyright contract and put theory into practice. Through his great expertise he was the best person to show us, what a copyright contract should entail and how to achieve what the client actually wants, while complying with the relevant provisions of the DSM Directive. Hans’ humorous approach made for an interesting and engaging lecture, encouraging us to participate and become better practitioners. Thank you, Hans! Live long and prosper 🖖🏻

Today, we were captivated by a guest lecture on Bad Faith in the Comparative Setting: EU and U.S. Law. With fascinating examples and thought-provoking insights, Ingrida Karina-Berzina brought this complex topic to life, bridging perspectives from both sides of the Atlantic. A heartfelt thank you to Ingrida Karina-Berzina - your expertise and passion truly inspired us!

Yesterday we had the great pleasure of attending a lecture by our very own EIPL alumnus Spyros Sipetas. Due to the expertise he gained as a PhD student, Spyros gave us some valuable insights into the world of copyright in the fashion industry and especially into the ever so relevant topic of designers as copyright authors. Thank you, Spyros, for sharing your knowledge with us! We are excited to see what your next endeavors will be!

Meet the Students - Class of 2025: Adriane Rahal Nardiello || "Hej hej, My name is Adriane, and I’m from São Paulo, Brazil. I graduated in Law from Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie and worked for several years as a civil litigation lawyer, including on some copyright cases, as well as in the area of regulatory health law. Intellectual Property has always been a passion of mine, so being here at Stockholm University to study IP feels like a dream come true. After three years in Sweden, I’ve surprisingly become a fan of the cold! Coming from a warm country, I never thought I’d say this, but now I actually look forward to the snow and spending cozy afternoons in Stockholm’s lovely cafés.“

Today, we had the privilege to join an enlightening session led by Dr. Michal Bohaczewski, Senior IP Counsel at Richemont International SA, hosted at Stockholm University. The session, titled "Protecting Luxury: Trade Mark Perspective," offered invaluable insights into the nuanced world of intellectual property, particularly in the realm of luxury goods. Dr. Bohaczewski discussed distinctiveness in trademark registration, focusing on inherent and acquired distinctiveness, and tackled challenges related to non-conventional trademarks. He also explained the "substantial value rule" and its impact on protecting trademarks in the luxury industry. The session provided valuable insights into the balance between creativity and legal safeguards essential for maintaining the allure of luxury brands. Many thanks to Dr. Bohaczewski for sharing his knowledge and enriching the learning experience.
