  • After a long engagement with the Gov. of Malta on 5th Dec 2024, Prime Minister Robert Abela and Environment Minister Miriam Dalli announced a public call to businesses interested in building Malta’s first offshore wind farm. The three-step process will be this: 🔹 PQQ (Pre-Qualification Questionnaire) – Interested developers must provide information on their economic stance and offshore wind related experience. The 5 candidates with the highest capabilities will be selected as “Shortlisted Candidates” with 2 more candidates as “Reserve Candidates”. The shortlisted candidates will be invited to the ITPD phase – A detailed breakdown of the section criteria has already been shared in the PQQ; 🔹 ITPD (Invitation To Participate in Dialogue) – The Gov. of Malta’s Dialogue Team, comprised of experts shall have the right to discuss the technical, legal, commercial and/or financial requirements of the Project with the Shortlisted Candidates; 🔹 BAFO (Best And Final Offer) – The publication of an invitation to tender, under which all Shortlisted Candidates shall be invited to submit a best and final offer for the Project, including a detailed technical and financial final offer. The details of the award criteria will be known later in the process but it is already known that a winning combination of financial and non-financial criteria will be key. The financial offer will consist of the Strike Price requested of a CfD, and the CAPEX and OPEX for the GCS (Grid Connection System) to be developed by the candidates and paid by the Government. Interested developers have until 28th March to submit all the information included in the PQQ which is: 🔸 Financial Statements for the last 3 years 🔸 Technical Experience related to offshore wind developments, especially experience in offshore interconnections, substations, floating and installed capacity. 2 similar areas in the Eastern coast of Malta are offered for developing an approx. 300 MW floating offshore wind farm, with only 1 area to be granted and developed by 1 candidate. AFRY has been supporting the Government in the process of drafting the PQQ from the technical and commercial points of view and will be walking through the whole process until the conclusion. Our scope included site selection, technology selection, electrical and environmental studies, cost estimates, financial feasibility and modelling, support for state aid application and drafting tender documentation. 🌐 All information has been uploaded to the electronic tenders site of the Gov: https://lnkd.in/dwAa5MRx AFRY helps governments in selecting offshore wind development areas, creating roadmaps for offshore wind development and designing offshore wind competitive processes. • We are proud to announce that AFRY has been awarded the EPCM project for Arauco's new greenfield pulp mill in Brazil. This state-of-the-art facility will be the world's largest pulp mill, with a production capacity of 3.5 million tonnes per year. The new mill will feature advanced technologies and sustainable practices, maximising energy efficiency and minimising environmental impact. AFRY is responsible for detailed engineering, procurement, and construction management for the balance of plant (BOP). This significant milestone not only underscores AFRY's leading global position in the pulp & paper industry but also signals the improvement in CAPEX project investments in the sector! #MakingFuture #Pulp&Paper https://lnkd.in/dsKyD4Sn

Driving change with AFRY's Youth Panel. 🌍 In 2021, a group of passionate young professionals at AFRY came together with a shared vision: to create a platform for youth to connect, discuss sustainability, and empower each other. This vision led to the formation of AFRY’s Youth Panel, a global team of employees aged 30 and younger, dedicated to fostering networking and exchanging ideas on sustainability and youth empowerment. The team members are chosen for a year, and in September this year the Youth Panel for 2024-2025 kicked off. The Youth Panel regularly hosts impactful initiatives, such as surveys, events, and panels. One example is when Youth Panel members David Bertschinger and Edzhe Bachakla joined our internal COP29 stream to address questions raised by the youth community within AFRY. The discussions focused on the impact of host countries on climate actions and the decarbonisation targets of companies, highlighting the need for collaboration across various sectors. Thanks for joining us at this important event, we are so proud to have you! 👏 #makingfuture

  • 🏭 From grey to green: the industrial transition to renewable hydrogen.🏭 Renewable and low-carbon hydrogen is emerging as a crucial enabler for industrial decarbonisation, offering a sustainable pathway to reduce emissions in sectors like steel, fertilisers and cement.  Several green steel projects are currently under development across Europe, including HYBRIT and Stegra in Sweden.  Despite its immense potential, the transition to a hydrogen economy faces significant challenges, particularly in terms of cost and industrial willingness to pay, making strategic actions and international cooperation necessary to overcome these hurdles. ➡️ Read more in our article: https://lnkd.in/d2r7uXjc

Launch of AFRY’s new Transition Hub! 🌍 The shift from fossil fuels and fossil-based materials to renewable and low-carbon alternatives represents one of the most significant challenges of our time. Latest data from the EU’s Copernicus Climate Change Service confirmed that 2024 is now certain to be the hottest year on record, with global temperatures exceeding 1.5° C. At AFRY, we believe in being the part of the solution, and in response to these pressing issues, AFRY is stepping up to lead the way towards a sustainable future. We are therefore proud of our new Transition Hub - launching today.  On the Transition Hub, we share our latest insights, reports and inspiring examples for a sustainable future.  Access the Transition Hub here: https://lnkd.in/dCEukhCB #makingfuture
