Accuracy estimate and optimization techniques for simrank computation
VLDB
The measure of similarity between objects is a very useful tool in many areas of
computer science, including information retrieval. SimRank is a simple and intuitive measure
of this kind, based on graph-theoretic model. SimRank is typically computed iteratively, in
the spirit of PageRank. However, existing work on SimRank lacks accuracy estimation of

Navigation-driven evaluation of virtual mediated views

The MIX mediator systems incorporates a novel framework for navigation-driven
evaluation of virtual mediated views. Its architecture allows the on-demand computation of
views and query results as the user navigates them. The evaluation scheme minimizes
superfluous source access through the use of lazy mediators that translate incoming client
navigations on virtual XML views into navigations on lower level mediators or wrapped

We present a query language and mediator architecture for XML data [XML98b].
The query language, called Xmas (XML Matching And Structuring Language) uses vertical
and horizontal navigation. The horizontal navigation provides a powerful novel mechanism
for using the order in the semistructured model underlying XML. This couples nicely with the
well-known regular path expressions for vertical navigation [Suc, Abi97, Bun97, AQM+ 97,

A demonstration of SciDB: a science-oriented DBMS

In CIDR 2009, we presented a collection of requirements for SciDB, a DBMS that
would meet the needs of scientific users. These included a nested-array data model, science-
specific operations such as regrid, and support for uncertainty, lineage, and named versions.
In this paper, we present an overview of SciDB's key features and outline a demonstration of
the first version of SciDB on data and operations from one of our lighthouse users, the Large
Synoptic Survey Telescope…In CIDR 2009, we presented a collection of requirements for SciDB, a DBMS that
would meet the needs of scientific users. These included a nested-array data model, science-
specific operations such as regrid, and support for uncertainty, lineage, and named versions.
In this paper, we present an overview of SciDB's key features and outline a demonstration of
