At our recent Budapest dbt Meetup Juan Manuel Perafan talked about one of the most important aspects that dbt helped bring to the forefront of the data world: testing. Testing plays a key role in improving code quality and maintainability. It has additional benefits, such as being a communication tool (both between business users and developers, and also among developers as they on and offboard the project), and, quite obviously, ensuring data quality. Testing comes at different abstraction levels and in various phases of the lifecycle, with various tools and methodologies. #dbt itself has built-in capabilities for testing data transformations, and the ecosystem extends it by quite a lot.
