VESSEL REVIEW: China's Rizhao Gangda Shipbuilding Heavy Industry has handed over a new semi-submersible heavy lift vessel ordered by China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) for operation by subsidiary CCCC First Harbour Engineering Bureau. 'Yihang Jinyun 2' (一航津运2) was designed by Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute (SDARI). It is capable of carrying Ro-Ro freight, raw materials (such as sand and gravel), and project cargo, the latter of which includes large offshore wind turbines of 10 MW capacity as well as their associated components. A number of structural elements were incorporated to make the vessel better suited for its primary functions. Since loading and unloading via the stern was deemed the most efficient means of working with heavy loads, particularly large prefabricated components, the decision was made to place the superstructure well forward near the bow. To accommodate wheeled vehicles, especially 60-tonne trucks, a custom springboard is fitted to better absorb wheel pressure. Full article link in comments.

The consultation will remain open for a period of eight and half weeks until midnight on Sunday 28 July 2024.  Key proposed changes  - simplifying SMS requirements for smaller, less complex vessels and operations - strengthening fatigue management   - managing risks from drug and alcohol use  - ensuring that roles and responsibilities are clearly defined   - updating the assembly station requirements to be more practical  - aligning procedures for onboard operations and emergency preparedness with risk  - addressing risks to vessel stability   - amending the certificate of operation renewal criteria to reduce administrative burden In addition to the key proposed changes, there will also be other administrative and editorial changes made to the marine order. The ceremony marks a major milestone in the vessel’s development, symbolising the official start of the build process and reaffirming ADSB’s commitment to offering advanced naval vessels designed and built entirely in the UAE. The OPV will be demonstrated at NAVDEX 2025, where its capabilities will be showcased to key stakeholders. LNG has made it possible to load the Northern Sea Route. Putin: Russia will continue to increase the capacity of the NSR port infrastructure. Russia will continue to increase the capacity of port infrastructure within the Northern Sea Route, Vladimir Putin said, speaking at the plenary session of the EEF. He recalled that today 14 ports are involved in the scheme of cabotage voyages along the NSR, in 2023 their total capacity exceeded 40 million tons. Putin specified that compared to the times of the USSR, the volume of cargo transportation along the Arctic seas has increased fivefold. At the same time, he indicated that Russia will continue to increase the capacity of the port infrastructure of the NSR. Earlier, Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev said (the corporation is the operator of the NSR) that in 2023, the total cargo turnover along this transport artery grew to a record 36.25 million tons. The number of transit cargoes also increased significantly to 2.129 million tons. VESSEL REVIEW: Chinese shipbuilder Ningbo Huanhai Heavy Industry recently handed over a new semi-submersible offshore fish farming platform to Zhejiang Shenlan Marine Technology. 'Donghai No 1' (东海1号) was built to a design by Zhuhai Gesheng Technology and will focus on harvesting yellow croaker off Zhejiang province. The platform was designed to be capable of withstanding extreme weather and sea conditions that regularly occur in the waters off Zhejiang. Numerous ballast water tanks can be adjusted accordingly to keep the platform afloat and as level as possible, whether during harvesting operations or when it is being towed to and from various offshore areas. The platform will be deployed in waters that are over 20 metres (66 feet) deep but not more than 50 kilometres (31 miles) from the coast. The onboard facilities will produce simulated conditions to ensure that any harvested yellow croaker will have significantly improved quality approaching that of wild yellow croaker, thus resulting in higher margins compared to fish that has been farmed closer to shore.
