This is the world shown in the film Elysium [2013], which has stayed in my mind this past decade. (I've remembered it well, so it was effective art.) The director said at the time "Everybody wants to ask me lately about my predictions for the future. No, no, no. This isn't science fiction. This is today. This is now." I agree with him. Everything that has happened over the last 10 years has trended in this direction. In a high-inflation world, where the money printer never stops for a second, the banks will end up owning everything. (What other outcome is possible ?) If you operate as an individual in this environment, you are on a conveyor belt directly to semi-employed serf. Operating as Tela Network allows us to bargain as a group in such a world, no matter what happens. Collective bargaining is the historical norm. In medieval Europe, such groups were called "guilds". Usually, when the larger society tried to enslave you, you could fall back on your local institutions to defend you. The church and the priest, the pub and the publican, the farm and the farmer, the manor and the lord. But today: These social institutions have been obliterated. Let's break down this multi-billion dollar business move for #streaming and cinema. #DuneProphecy: "Sisterhood above all." The space opera that is #Dune, spans well over some 30,000 years. It is interesting to note that this particular series on Max goes back to the very beginnings of the #BeneGeserit sisterhood. It's fiscally important to Max for a number of reasons. The biggest morsel of all, and the story most pertinent to our (us the audience) times, is the out-of-canon trilogy known as #TheButlerianJihad. That is THE crown jewel of space opera for our times. 'The Butlerian Jihad' is the inflection point in Dune's timeline, where technology reaches its absolute peak, thanks to #artificialintelligence. It is when a certain charismatic AI's actions, causes a holy war lasting thousands of years, in a bid to end all thinking machines across the galaxy. It is the impetus for the supernatural elements of Dune which may confuse those focused on hard Sci-Fi. It is also the branching point for humans that later scatter across the galaxy, diverging from their point of origin, and effectively becoming what many would call, "aliens." There are no sophisticated machines in any of the Dune books because of the fallout from 'The Butlerian Jihad.' The war is the reason why the Bene Geserit sought the creation of a creature like Paul: a super-human that can see all possible futures, and thus change the present for the most desirable outcome. Why? Because, even when we join Paul on his adventures, the AI threat is not entirely gone... If #Max is willing to go this far back into the history of Dune, depending on the rights they have secured, then there is nothing short of several other dozen tales from the Duniverse, from which Max can create content forever, not unlike how they can do the same with #GameOfThrones. The Duniverse is comparable in complexity to J.R.R. Tolkien, it has far more content written by its author before his passing, and later continued by his son. They’re working within and around the confines of canon, and their current ‘Peter Jackson of SciFi,’ Denis Villeneuve, is still actively making one more feature and was involved (to an extent) with the series, though no longer directly. Fiscally, it would be smart, as I have posted in articles throughout the years, for corporate to maintain this series as a counterpart to explain all the bread and depth of court, politics, and religious intrigue. Leave the wordplay and “plans withing plans” for the small screen, leave the spectacle to #cinema. Keep the aliens, the AIs, and the holy war against thinking machines for *after* the groundwork has been laid to understand it all and launch in parallel. Max could have multiple, multi-billion dollar #vfx #franchises for the lulls in between each massive series and motion picture launch (helping avoid churn), and a new #streaming business paradigm I have argued for years as the path to sustainable growth.

Be gentle and kind to ChatGPT, we are dealing with 9 year old kid only ya 😂 "....Michal Kosinski, a professor at Stanford University, has decided to put ChatGPT to the test, by putting different versions of the chatbot through ‘theory of mind’ tasks designed to test a child’s ability to look at another person in specific situations and understand what’s going on in that person's head.....The experiment was done in November of 2022 and used a version of ChatGPT trained on GPT3.5. The chatbot solved 94% (17 of 20) of Kosinski’s theory of mind tasks, putting the chatbot in the same league as the average nine-year-old child. According to Kosinksi the ability “may have spontaneously emerged” due to improving language skills....." Dario Amodei, the CEO of Anthropic, says he "dislike(s) the term AGI" despite using it frequently over the past several years. He's created a new term: powerful AI. What is powerful AI? He imagines it as a "country of geniuses in a datacenter." Powerful AI is an example of moving the goalposts and aligning ad hoc goals with one's research. It is self-serving and fails to establish a shared standard for AI. Moreover, this definition fails to describe intelligence and doesn't rise above tautology. It merely redefines intelligence as something geniuses do in an oddly specific location. We can add powerful AI to a litany of names such as narrow, general, super, weak, and strong (all poorly defined). Yet, as a rule of thumb, the number of categories erected to explain an area of research is inversely proportional to the available knowledge about that research, thus anesthetizing so-called AI speedometers and AGI countdowns. That said, the rest of the article attempts to distance powerful AI from the x-risk in AGI. At nearly 15,000 words, it is not light reading, but I agree with Amodei that all the x-risk is overstated, and I suppose his attempt to codify risk is something.

This is a worthwhile overview on the bets Satya Nadella has made at Microsoft. His overarching them has been that with AI, every old fight and every old bet the Microsoft has made was back on the table, is paying off. He's made some big bets, including in OpenAI. A few didn't pay off, and a few more are still up in the air. He's successfully put Alphabet Inc./Google back on it's heals. He's forced Cisco to step up their security game. This is a very good watch, even if the video has some flaws. TL;DR - I thought the childhood story was told in a very compelling manner. I think it's based only on Musk's own reports, so maybe it should be taken with a grain of salt. Regardless, it does give some perspective. - Harris completely missed the mark on the PayPal story. I'm no Peter Thiel fan, but PayPal's success was despite Musk, not thanks to him. - Harris also neglects to mention how Musk saved Tesla. He also isn't much aware that Tesla cars have some of the most serious issues in the car industry. The engineering marvels are marred by some really basic quality control problems. This attitude plagues a lot of his businesses. Cutting costs and expediting delivery have a price. But the most important part is actually the last one, about Twitter. This is worth the watch alone. Like a lot of people said, myself included: Musk is NOT a champion of free speech. - He amplifies himself and mutes dissenters. - There was NO Left leaning bias before the acquisition. Slightly the contrary. - And this ones the most staggering: he wholeheartedly cooperates with governments and regimes in silencing and censoring content. Almost 3 times as much as before! Even in specific cases where the old Twitter actually refused, he complied! I'd like to end with a moderate tone, although my personal view of Musk isn't moderate. Achievements are created by collaborating. Almost nothing is done by a single human. Musk is ABSOLUTELY no exception. The trouble in buying the Iron Man narrative, is that not only it's patently false and childish, it's also dangerous as it creates a myth around a single person, giving him more power and incentivizes him to be corrupt and unlawful. The Elon Musk story isn't about the human spirit. It's actually about the longing for a digital messiah in a world devoid of spiritual meaning. The "Strawberry Problem" is going around again so perhaps it's worth an unpack. An increasing number of people have discovered that #ChatGPT can't count the number of "R's" in "Strawberry." But this is probably a viral ad campaign for what's coming. Ok, you can try it yourself. "How many r's are in strawberry?" ChatGPT will confidently tell you there are two R's. When further prompted, it will note there is one in straw and one in berry. You will screenshot this and post it to the Internet and say "see LLMs aren't the future they are so dumb they can't even count!" This is likely an error due to tokenization, that is, breaking words up into smaller chunks so they can be learned by the model during unsupervised pretraining. This particular error was widely circulated and discussed by the research community a few months ago... but that likely means that OpenAI's lab knew about it a year or more ago. In early August, OpenAI CEO posted a picture of strawberries growing in his garden, fueling speculation that Strawberry is an internal code name for a future GPT upgrade that eliminates hallucination and performs human-like reasoning. It's believed that this development contributed to his ouster by the company's (former) board of AI-safety zealots in November 2023. There are also rumors that this capability has been demonstrated to "national security officials" according to a report by Reuters. There are also rumors that this capability is better at "math and programming" than any existing capability. I mean it's been a while since a big upgrade, so one would expect they are up to something, right? The 2-or-3 R's problem is somewhat fixable, but I think they leave it in the model because people are talking about it and they keep posting memes about it. Free advertising. You can solve the problem yourself by asking ChatGPT to list the letters in STRAW and BERRY one at a time and then count them up. The ability to perform "chain-of-thought" reasoning and inherently check answers against a factual graph is likely what we'll see with commercial and open source models over the next two or so years.
