The policies being driven forward by Thierry Breton around the EU AI Act have been utmost damaging for the European tech industry, and they need to be revised as soon as possible. We need to better balance driving European innovation through data collection and modeling with conflicting needs such as data protection and safety. We need to ensure we can turn these developments into businesses that can be the pillar of the next generation of companies that provide productivity growth in Europe. We have no other choice - either we do this here, or we will have to take over products developed in the US and in China, as it already happened with search engines, cell phones, and social networks. We wouldn't want to let this happen with AI applications in robotics or digital assistants. #euacc #euaiact #aiact

I was super excited to collaborate with Fabricio Bronzati again on a blog post. This time we tackled the newly announced NVIDIA Inference Microservices. In this blog, we show what is included in NIM and more importantly, how easy it is to stand one up. One of the most important decisions I made around 20 years ago is to stop lying to myself. These are small lies like "I will make time to do that Udemy course", or "it is only 10 minutes a day to do DuoLingo and I'll definitely do it", or "Ill start a diet tomorrow". The worst lies are the ones where we promise somebody else something but lie to ourselves about our ability to show up. When I intend to actually do something, I schedule time for it. but if I can't, then I just say "I won't do it", up front. Sure, it sucks having to say "No" to so many things. But you know what sucks even more? Failing at things you knew in advance were destined to fail. Make plans that you know you can live up to. Choose achievable goals. Then you create a steady stream of success-events, and feel amazing about yourself and your ability to execute. This will feed your motivation and allow you to take on larger challenges. Make a plan that can work, and follow through on it.

What does agility mean as an architectural characteristic? This is a very important question I learned how to better answer thanks to Neal Ford and his amazing course about Architecture for Modern Engineering Practices.

Software development often experiences a slowdown as projects progress. Recognising this challenge, Jack proposes a solution known as Technical Coherence. This approach aims to counteract the deceleration by aligning engineering efforts with organisational objectives. At the core of Technical Coherence lies the identification of user experience domains within the product. These domains represent distinct sets of user interactions and needs, guiding the development process towards more focused and coherent outcomes. Furthermore, Jack emphasises the importance of identifying shared domains across user experience domains. These shared domains encompass functionalities or components that are essential to multiple aspects of the product, fostering cohesion and efficiency in development efforts. To implement Technical Coherence effectively, the Jack suggests organising engineering efforts into three layers: Product Engineering, Domain Engineering, and Infrastructure Engineering. Each layer serves a specific function, from delivering user-facing features to providing foundational infrastructure. Product Engineering focuses on meeting user needs and enhancing the overall user experience, while Domain Engineering addresses company-specific but widely shared functionalities. Meanwhile, Infrastructure Engineering ensures the stability and scalability of the technical infrastructure supporting the entire organisation. Jack goes on to discuss a staffing strategy tailored to each engineering layer, aiming to strike a balance between expertise and resource allocation. This strategy emphasises the continuous improvement and adaptation of the organisation to evolving technologies and industry standards. Overall, Technical Coherence offers a structured approach to overcoming the challenges of software development slowdown by promoting alignment, cohesion, and efficiency across engineering efforts. MuSA_RT 3.0 is now available for download on the Apple Store for your favorite platform (iOS, iPadOS, macOS): https://lnkd.in/dQPngPG I entirely rewrote the graphics with RealityKit, which allows MuSA_RT to run in VisionOS. Well, at least the iOS version now runs in the VisionOS simulator. It is not AR-pretty (yet), but it's a first step. I have been thinking about what a proper hands-off AR version of MuSA_RT could look like for a long time now, so very excited to keep prototyping and exploring over upcoming week-ends and holidays!
