Yesterday I mentioned our increasing use of Symfony as a PHP development framework. As a framework it brings enterprise level governance to how we approach and deploy our code. We've always built a lot using WordPress (and still do), and one of the most frustrating things when using it with larger teams is the lack governance around working practices. Because of it's structure, multiple developers have access to many different ways to change the code, so even if you have good practices in place like GitHub (a centralised place where all the code versions live), developers have multiple ways to upload their code up to the website, or change the code directly in WordPress. Whilst you would hope everyone follows best practice, the reality is this happens all the time, especially when a team of developers work on the same project, or someone finds a bug in their code and tries to fix it under the radar. Symfony has allowed us to establish a robust development pipeline where the only way code can be deployed to the live server is by going through a QA process (pull request) with our Head of Development. This is a major step forward as it puts QA in the hands of our most experienced and conscientious developer, protects the live site from non-planned updates, and avoids that situation where every-time a go-live happens the same error occurs because someone didn't commit their code. https://lnkd.in/eGz_e-8S

1h into a symfony book: fully functioning application 1h into a Go book: and that’s our first view I will however say this: full stack frameworks hide so much complexity away that you can and will run into trouble soon. The minute your needs deviate from the nicely paved path there’s going to be pain. While the more step by step, built it all yourself approach can make you more self reliant and productive in the long run. Still, sometimes you just need to RAD something and for that you still can’t beat a mature full stack framework. Which of course brings me to startups. If I was starting something from scratch today, I think I’d prefer a language and framework combo that let me whip up a fully functioning service in a few days. And when and if the need arose, then start breaking pieces away into a more suitable stack. IF the need arose.

This can prevent illegal or harmful values from being set, thus enhancing the security of your applications. With the ability to define custom getters and setters, developers can automatically format or sanitize data as it comes in, ensuring that the application’s state remains consistent and predictable. These hooks also make debugging easier as they can log when and how properties are changed, which is invaluable for maintaining large codebases. ⚙ How It Works: In the example attached, the _set_name and _set_email methods act as setters with validation checks. They ensure that the name is not empty, and the email is valid before setting their values. The getters _get_name and _get_email ensure that any access to these properties retrieves the correct, validated data.

I spent a considerable amount of time working on exporting PDFs from hidden HTML templates in a Vue.js 3 project. I encountered several challenges, particularly with rendering content correctly and ensuring images loaded properly across different devices, especially on older iOS versions. After thorough research and experimentation, I was finally able to resolve these issues. In this article, I’ve shared my solution in hopes that it will help other developers facing similar problems. The article covers setting up Vue with TypeScript, generating PDFs using html2pdf.js, and overcoming common rendering challenges.
