The official Google Photos app is made for the way you take photos today and includes essential features like shared albums, automatic creations and an advanced editing suite. Additionally every Google Account comes with 15 GB of storage and you can choose to automatically back up all your photos and videos in High quality or Original quality. You can then access them from any connected device and on photos.google.com.
With the official app, you get:
15 GB OF STORAGE: Back up 15 GB of photos and videos and access them from any device and photos.google.com—your photos are safe, secure, and private to you. All photos and videos you back up in high quality before June 1, 2021 will not count toward your Google Account storage.

Google photos is amazing. As I OCD person the organization is amazing. The only thing I wish they had was an option to stack duplicate photos. From different times. They have stack duplicates that were taken at the same time. But not when I have a picture from today when I already have it back in 2019 when it's originally taken. That's the only issue I have.

The app is bad for managing photos on my phone. I can't redownload images, and finding them on my phone (e.g., in a file dialog) is impossible. edit: Yes, there is an option to download photos that aren't on device, but if you have thousands of photos on device it's not very useful that a photo is on your device "somewhere". Being able to download a photo and then easily find it in the downloads is useful for uploading photos to a different app.

Can't find my pictures older than 4 years. @developer, thanks for the reply and for anything you might have done. The photos are back. Just an FYI, I had already checked everything you suggested (right account, backing-up, not in archive, or locked folder), and the photos were not there. I'll increase my review two stars because I am grateful they are back! If I can successfully download the important ones to me, I might come back to update.
