Not many non-russians know russia as well as Oleksandr Lytvynenko. Ukraine’s new national security chief spent five formative years in Moscow as a cryptology cadet at the elite kgb Academy. More recently, as head of #Ukraine’s foreign-intelligence service during two years of war, he busied himself undermining and extracting information from his one-time peers. At the end of March, he took over one of the country’s most critical jobs. So Mr Lytvynenko deserves to be listened to. And he has a warning for those Western politicians (Donald Trump being the most notorious example) thinking about pushing a premature peace deal on Ukraine which would require it to give up territory. “𝗣𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗻 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗱, 𝗶𝘀 𝗹𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗶𝗲.” Ceding territory to Russia in return for peace would be a “cruel betrayal” of the Ukrainians left under violent occupation, he says. Many more innocent people would be killed, more would be thrown into cellars. But there is a more pragmatic reason to reject it, too. An agreement made with a compulsive liar probably means only one thing: him regrouping, rearming and trying for more in two or three years. 𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗮’𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘀 “𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱” 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗨𝗸𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲, Mr Lytvynenko says. “The next time he won’t make mistakes, but will prepare his operation much more carefully, according to all the laws of military art.” Things were not supposed to have turned out like this for russia, of course. Ukraine was not expected to put up a fight. russian soldiers were supposed to be parading in Kyiv within days of the invasion. With his “blitzkrieg”, Mr Putin’s aim was to present the West with a fait accompli, Mr Lytvynenko argues. “He wanted to say: Ukraine’s over, guys, now let’s talk on my terms.” Ukraine’s heroism foiled that plan. It also fundamentally changed the negotiation. “Now a victory over the West can only come if Putin first has victory in Ukraine. In russians’ minds, victory in Ukraine means victory over the United States.” Has the message got through to those who need to hear it? Mr Lytvynenko heaves a sigh, and delivers a politician’s line, stressing Ukraine’s “critical partnership with the American state…regardless of who is in power.” This week, Congress might finally begin the task of signing off on much-needed military assistance. But even if it does, the emphasis is on giving Ukraine just enough to stay in the game, rather than the tools to secure a victory. [In recent weeks, there have been numerous articles and news reports about problems with #Ukrainian defence positions, difficulties with mobilization, russian army superiority in everything, even using the words like “possible frontline collapse” etc. As I mentioned numerous times as well, the situation is difficult but very dynamic and many articles and reports don’t take this into account, instead basing their conclusions on older, stale or incorrect data. Below is the most recent example, which shows that “the devil is not as scary as they want us to believe”.] Day 792: 24 April Today, there is a lot of news from the Lyman direction. Here, russian forces refused to accept the defeat in the Battle for Terny, and suddenly opened a new vector of attack to prevent the collapse of their bridgehead, and retake the initiative back in their hands. The reason for the failure of the russian mechanized assault along the third axis of advance is threefold. Firstly, the 𝗨𝗸𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗙𝗩𝗣 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁. Secondly, according to various Ukrainian sources, the 𝗨𝗸𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗮 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵 𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗽𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸𝘀. Ukrainian commander-in-chief Oleksandr Syrskyi recently announced that rotations had begun in various directions on a widespread level since troops had not been rotated in many places for more than a year. Due to the rotation, russian troops here had to face much fresher Ukrainian troops. And thirdly, it appears that 𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗳𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗴𝘂𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀. The size of this mechanized assault was much smaller than those observed over the last few weeks, which is a clear indicator of exhaustion of the forces.

There are increasing signals that a new Russian offensive towards the city of Kharkiv is imminent. Ukrainian commanders report approximately 50,000 Russian troops amassed on the border. Russian artillery has heavily shelled the border region near the city of Vovchansk, and there are also reports of Russian infantry attacking multiple border villages north of Kharkiv. Although the forces are not large enough to capture Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city, they could force Ukrainian defenders to disperse their forces, potentially opening a pathway for Russian advances in Donbas. It's not yet clear whether the Russians plan to attack from the direction of Vovchansk or directly from the north towards Kharkiv. However, it appears that the Russians aim to initiate the offensive before Western military support reaches the frontline. Ukraine faces challenging weeks ahead.

Russian Railways showed a medical train for remote areas "St. Panteleimon" with AI on board The special train presented by Russian Railways consists of 14 wagons and is designed to provide highly professional medical care to residents of hard-to-reach regions of Russia. The train will start working at the Eastern Training Ground soon. Its route passes through eight regions of the country. These are the Republic of Buryatia and Sakha (Yakutia), the Trans-Baikal, Primorsky and Khabarovsk Territories, the Amur, Irkutsk and Jewish Autonomous Regions. Mikhail Murashko, Minister of Health of the Russian Federation, and Oleg Belozerov, CEO and Chairman of the Management Board of Russian Railways, were the first to examine the unique composition. "The St. Panteleimon train is equipped with unique medical devices, there is an opportunity to conduct high-quality laboratory and functional studies. And since the mobile center will operate in hard–to-reach regions of the country, such a project has a high social significance for local residents," Mikhail Murashko stressed. One of the unique features of the mobile clinical diagnostic Center is the use of artificial intelligence "Celsus AI", a leading Russian development with high quality indicators capable of analyzing X-ray, Mammo and CT studies. The Soviet threat never disappeared - it’s just got more open and brutal] russia’s GRU — military intelligence — is waging war on European countries. It uses not only its own officers but also proxies: gangsters, far-right extremists, and assorted riff-raff. Attacks include assassination, arson, sabotage, and also other covert operations — such as using graffiti to inflame tensions. Yet NATO’s collective defense budget is three-and-a-half times more than russia and China combined. How is it that russia, a country with an Italy-sized economy, is able to attack the entire West with impunity? The answer is that russia does not take us seriously. Decision-makers in moscow are not scared of our reaction. It is not the size of the dog in the fight that matters, but the size of the fight in the dog. russia is willing to kill people, destroy property, and then lie about it. And we are not. … …the real reason is fear of escalation. Western public opinion dislikes anything that looks like warmongering or brinkmanship. Voters also dislike any foreign policy that comes with costs. Already any American visiting russia is at risk of state-sanctioned kidnap. Crank up the pressure on the Kremlin, and any European visiting will also be a potential target. Far worse than hostages is the thought that confronting russia risks a nuclear war. An adage attributed to Vladimir Lenin advises, “Probe with bayonets: if you find mush, push. If you find steel, you withdraw.” Putin is pushing and sees no reason to stop. Restoring deterrence will be far costlier and riskier than maintaining it would have been.

There are dozens of fascist organizations in Russia, some are forbidden but still they exist. Some are moderate, some are radical. There were even Russian prisoners with swastika tattoos. The former commander of Wagner mercenaries (Utkin) liked Nаzi aesthetics, he had tattoos reproducing the elements of Nazi uniform and nicknamed himself “Wagner” because Hitler liked this composer. Even Navalny (yes, the opposition leader everyone moгrns for after Putin killed him) in his younger years was participating in ultra-right movements demonstrations, insulted Georgians in 2008 war, and used derogatory names for them. On their TV shows, they openly tell they want to destroy our nation because we are “spoiled Russians” that need to be “purified”. Racism motivated crime rate in Russia is very high too. Interestingly, it is normally not directed at people of Sub-Saharian phenotype, but at people from Caucasus and Middle Asia. Flat rent ads “for Slavic-looking people only”, and beating someone for being “not real Russian” is quite common. So when a Russian blubbers something about fighting with Nаzism in Ukraine (I see much of this in troll comments), shut him up with these facts. We do not have a significant number of these here. Sure, there might be some individual pricks like everywhere but nothing seriously organized at all. A couple of moderate nationalistic organizations that can’t even get enough votes (5%) for the parliament, and no radical organizations at all. It’s lower representation of far-rights in politics than in most of European countries. We have the lowest level of anti-Semitism in Europe, and our president is a Jew, and we have 1.5 million Muslims at the same time (e.g. our Minister of Defense is a Crimean Tatar). No one cares about your religion or ethnicity as long as you do not behave like @ssh0le, respect the nation, and do not call Putin to come.

russia’s full-blown war against #Ukraine is in its third year. While Ukraine struggles to constrain russia’s creeping advances amid delayed Western weapons shipments, there are renewed mutterings in diplomatic circles about the need to kickstart peace talks. Ukrainian officials reject this idea, stating that russia’s end goal is the capitulation of Ukraine, while critics assert that the West still does not understand the aggressor’s ultimate goal: dismantling the rules-based order. Instructive for understanding russia’s overarching goals is an article by Stas Kozliuk and Yevhen Buderatskyi in Ukrainska Pravda on russia’s failed 2014 attempt to squash Ukraine’s leanings towards EU integration and occupy half of the country following the Euromaidan revolution. Based on interviews with dozens of participants in the events and investigators and an analysis of how russian special services operated in Ukraine during this period, the article offers insights into the covert methods with which russia aims to rebuild its sphere of influence by eroding the sovereignty of post-Soviet countries. In the case of Ukraine’s Euromaidan, this included getting its agents to the top law enforcement positions and employing employees of the FSB’s 2nd department, responsible for carrying out high-ranking assassinations of politicians like Boris Nemtsov and the attempted poisoning of the late Aleksey Navalny. …

These are the footages from surveillance cameras of the moment when russian terrorists gliding bombs hit the hypermarket in Kharkiv city, Ukraine, yesterday. Russian media report they "hit the weapon storage" in Kharkiv. Also, this is the kind of "peace offering" from russians for Ukraine. This is pure terrorism as it is. This can be ended in one day, once russians withdraw all the soldiers from Ukrainian territory and stop their terrorist attacks. This is how peace can be achieved in the most efficient way. But it doesn't look like russians want to do that. The other way is to enable Ukrainians to strike with all the US and other allies weapon into the russian territory to destroy the launchers of the bombs and missiles. #Telegram as warned by it's author Pavel Durov, blocked some content. In and out of Ukraine about Ukraine. First of all they blocked the accounts of the telegram bots that gather any intelligence on army movements in Ukraine. By demands of #Apple company, of course. Yes, you get it straight, the big tech participate in the wars. By the way, the block was lifted after a few days. But what pissed off the telegrammers of Ukraine? It appears that the app administration knows about their activity. Logs it. And can disclose the secret documents and identify them in the end. This makes the work of filtering the nazis much easier in the end. The big tech knows every your sin! Clearing the browser history won't help. There will be no dress changing on the fly after war. The favorite sports in Ukraine won't work. Telegram will upload the dossier on any user. And it won't comply with the FBI. It will comply with the KGB traditionally. And #Apple company won't give a dam. The very same moment you come out of the rural village and think you outsmart everyone. Being a cheap cake.

US HOPES SENDING ATACMS TO UKRAINE WILL ENCOURAGE GERMANY TO SEND TAURUS MISSILES The US hopes that the allies’ decision to send long-range ATACMS missiles to Ukraine will encourage Germany to make a similar decision about its Taurus cruise missiles. Source: an anonymous American official on 25 April, as reported by European Pravda with reference to AFP Details: The senior official in the US Defense Department stressed that the decision to send Taurus missiles to Ukraine is for Germany to make. "But certainly the US provision of ATACMS as well as prior decisions by the UK and France to provide long-range cruise missiles, we would certainly hope that this would be a factor," the official added. Ukraine has long been asking Germany to send Taurus missiles, which have a range of 500 km, but Berlin has refused to do so, fearing an escalation of the conflict. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz recently confirmed that he intends to stick to his refusal to supply Ukraine with Taurus cruise missiles despite the US Congress’ readiness to provide ATACMS. Jake Sullivan, advisor to the US President for National Security, has confirmed that Ukraine has received ATACMS long-range missiles and that the deliveries would continue in the future.

Yep, your government loves you !! Poland: PiS government spied on hundreds with Pegasus Trojan The Polish government under the national-conservative PiS, which has now been voted out (that doesn´t mean, the next government is not using it), may have monitored hundreds of people with the Pegasus Trojan. The targets included political opponents and well-known members of their own party. Public prosecutor's office is investigating Since the change of government after the elections last autumn, efforts in Poland have been made to come to terms with the PiS government, which had strong authoritarian traits. The Public Prosecutor's Office said in a report to parliament that it currently knows of 578 people who were spied on using the spying tool from the Israeli developer NSO Group, reports the DPA news agency. The report will be sent to a parliamentary committee of inquiry to examine various activities of the previous government. But the legal process has also long since begun. The new Justice Minister Adam Bodnar recently announced that the public prosecutor's office would send subpoenas to 31 people who would be questioned as witnesses in relation to the Pegasus espionage. Jarosław Kaczyński, head of the PiS, had always denied the allegations. However, this is increasingly likely to turn out to be a lie. Particularly due to the fact that reports have now emerged that even high-ranking members of the PiS themselves were under surveillance via Pegasus. But it wasn't just opposition politicians who were targeted. According to reports, a public prosecutor who had spoken out against the PiS's so-called judicial reform was also spied on. With this, the party had subordinated the judiciary and the appointment of judges directly to its political leadership - which contradicts any understanding of a constitutional state.

Ukrainian developers have connected machine learning to the monitoring of Russian propaganda. The website https://warofwords.info/ offers a search for key Russian TV channels, RuTube, YouTube channels, and Telegram channels. Videos are fully transcribed, which can greatly facilitate the work of fact-checkers. Search by keywords, speakers, sources, types of resources, and specific TV shows are available. There used to be (and there are, and I use them) tools on Azure that allowed something similar, but the input level was higher purely technically. There were no options for such a detailed analysis of a specific range of sources. Features:  - Data available since 2013. I hope developers will expand the timeline. But it's still cool.   - The tool is not only focused on the Ukrainian agenda. Try searching 'Kazakhstan' and you'll see. - It operates in both Russian and English. - Compared to Google and Yandex searches, the output is often more relevant, as the segment is narrower. "Often" does not equal "always", don't forget about dorks and other useful things.  - Not all notable characters are marked in the databases, as the AI is still learning, but the key ones are easy to find.  - The database does not cover all TV channels of interest for research, but it includes the main ones.  - The tool is fast and user-friendly. Overall, this tool is valuable and deserves a spot in the browser bookmarks of fact-checkers and OSINT professionals.

Better late than never. Since the start of russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, Volodymyr Zelensky, #Ukraine’s president, has been pleading for #F16 fighter jets. The first 10 (of an eventual 79) arrived in Ukraine on the last day of July, a year after the reluctant Biden administration finally gave its more eager European allies the green light to send them. By the end of 2024, Ukraine should be flying 20 of the American-made fighter jets. The rest, promised by the so-called F-16 coalition led by Denmark and the Netherlands, will arrive in batches during 2025. Frustration about how long it has taken to get the aircraft to Ukraine is intense, says Ben Hodges, a former commander of American forces in Europe. One reason for the delay in providing sufficient numbers of F-16s to make an impact, he says, is a “pitiful” lack of training slots for Ukrainian pilots–a “policy decision by the administration”. Language difficulties have also contributed. Ukraine has excellent, battle-hardened pilots. But F-16s, even these relatively old ones, are both very different and more complex than the Soviet-era MiG-29s and Su-27s they are used to. Another factor has been the time needed to get the infrastructure in place to receive them. The aircraft requires more maintenance than its russian equivalents. Flight engineers need as much training as the pilots (even though some Western civilian contractors are almost certainly on the ground in Ukraine). Some repair and maintenance may also be carried out in the neighbouring NATO countries of Poland and Romania, which will infuriate russia. The incoming aircraft are a priority target for the russians, says Nico Lange, a former chief of staff in Germany’s defence ministry. This is why they have been deployed with a great deal of secrecy, in dispersed bases with underground or hardened shelters, along with decoys. But such dispersal makes the logistics harder: it requires more people and more spare parts. … It will take time to integrate the F-16s with Ukraine’s air-defence systems and to acquire operating experience. Co-ordinating aircraft flying from multiple airfields will be challenging, says General Hodges. One key to unlocking their potential is the ASC 890 control and surveillance aircraft; in May Sweden announced it was donating two of them. But it is not clear when Ukrainian crews will be ready to fly them. Still, the F-16s’ arrival marks the start of building a NATO-standard air force. It plugs Ukraine into the F-16’s well-developed supply chain. NATO weapons systems… will be far more effective when carried by a plane they were designed for, rather than lashed on to elderly MiGs and Sukhois. Ukraine’s F-16s also come equipped with Link-16, a NATO tactical data-link that allows secure communications and improved situational awareness.
