Who won the Euros? Care to bet? The Euros is a significant event for all betting companies, prompting them to invest heavily in advertising to attract users to their platforms. While the winner of the Euros will be determined in a few days, we can already observe which betting companies have performed particularly well during the tournament. We analysed the performance of the following brands: Sky Betting & Gaming, William Hill, Betfair, Coral, Ladbrokes Coral, bet365, and Paddy Power. To gauge their success, we used the time spent on each service as a proxy for their revenues during this period. For each brand, we measured their share of user time before the Euros, specifically using the final weeks of the Premier League as a baseline, and compared it to their share of user time during the Euros. This allowed us to assess the general change for each brand, both in terms of overall engagement and user preference. The results indicate three major winners: BetFair, which saw its share increase by 37% during the Euros, as well as Paddy Power and SkyBet. This growth came at the expense of William Hill, Bet365, and Coral, whose share of time decreased by 25% during the same period. Ladbrokes' share of time remained relatively stable, experiencing only a 3% decrease. To fully understand the reasons behind these shifts, a comprehensive analysis of the campaigns is necessary. However, an immediate observation stands out: companies that did not advertise during the Euro games themselves experienced a more significant decline in their share of time. As shown in the second chart, Ladbrokes, Coral, and Bet365 did not advertise during the Euro games and consequently experienced a significant reduction in their share of time. William Hill is an outlier; despite advertising during the Euros, they did not perform well. This anomaly indicates that a deeper examination of William Hill's campaign is necessary to understand what went wrong.

When it comes to hot button topics we care about in our industry like being more sustainable, and having more equality and fairness for all people who work in media and adtech, we must hold companies who claim to solve these issues to higher standards than those of companies who are “just part of the plumbing”. If their marketing claims are accurate then they can be robustly held up. Questioning them doesn’t make us anti these ideals, it just means we care about these issues enough to not be willing to accept marketing claims at face value. There’s nothing I love more than watching great entrepreneurs win. H/t to Aaron Nosbisch , Nick Shackelford and their team for building what I believe is going to become the next unicorn in beverage. Some takeaways that stand out to me from their strategy: 💡Keeping it simple: many brands and founders jump in a million directions the second something starts to work. Most of the time, you don’t need to launch another product or flavor when you start to win. Just keep doing what’s working. 🌎Diverse acquisition channels: being overly reliant on one channel can hamstring a business when things go wrong, and even at best you’re still missing tons of potential customers who haven’t found you on the one channel you’re on. 🔥 Killer execution: I’ve seen firsthand some of the work that the team has been doing from a performance marketing POV and I’ve been telling friends and peers the same thing; I have never, ever seen anyone get this kind of performance at this scale and business size. Keep winning team ! Lots of us are rooting for you from the sidelines.

#SparkToro released an interesting study. Essentially, 60% of all searches end in a zero-click. Which we've always said is not relevant to businesses (for the majority) because searches similar to "how many ounces in a cup" shouldn't require search results. Take away the 60% zero-click searches for relevancy; organic search still captures 70% of the clicks, while 1% trends towards the ads, and the other 30% goes to Google Map Pack (ultimately, and in most cases). SEO has never been more important.

We analysed 100s of B2B ecommerce stores and found there’s a formula to creating the best possible product page. Surveys indicate that over 90% of B2B customers expect a "B2C-style" experience when they interact with a B2B store. But what does “B2C-style” actually mean? Are B2B customers looking for the exact same elements as retail shoppers, or are their needs distinct? We’re on a mission to unpack this and we’re starting a new SparkLayer B2B series “The Practical B2B UX guide” that’s going to cover essential areas of the eCommerce experience. First up in our new series, the Product Detail Page (or PDP). We’re all familiar with what makes a great B2C product page. Clear imagery, great descriptions, social proof, and easy way to add items to a cart. But what do B2B customers expect and - more importantly - need? The answer lies in the details.
