99% of FB/IG ad accounts are impressively overcomplicated. Although it may FEEL like things need to be complex to scale... There are only 4 campaigns you REALLY need to scale: 1. Testing Campaign (per country / region) - Upload all your creative tests here - Don’t exclude customers to increase engagement - Run campaign as ad set budget optimization (control) - Pro Tip: If a test is working, increase budget by 20% every few days to scale 2. Advantage Plus Campaign (per country / region) - Use post ID’s for winning ads from test campaign - Start campaign budget at $500 per day - Set customer budget % to 0 to force FB to go after new customers - Increase budget 20% per day until BE-ROAS 3. Evergreen Lead Gen (per country) - Generate demand from customers who need to be warmed up more - Build a backlog of customers for promos - Use campaign budget to funnel spent into lowest CPL ads 4. Evergreen Retargeting/Catalogue Sales Campaign - Run catalogue dynamic product ads - Retarget to 180-day hot & warm traffic in 1 ad set - Also, re-target people who are at risk of churning with an offer The rest? Cut it. And instead, use that time to: - Create better marketing assets (images / videos) - Create a better product - Create a better customer experience - And ultimately, increase your repeat purchase rate Because this is what actually moves the needle. I you can acquire as many customers as you want, but if you can’t keep them... You won’t have a business long-term. 🚨 Your ecommerce tracking in #GA4 is unlikely to be ever accurate if you do not implement these two conditional logics. 🚨 👉 Most developers do not track state changes but rather send duplicate events to GA4. 🤯 This results in inflated ecommerce events in a GA4 property. And the worse part is that most businesses are not even aware of this issue. . . Developers also do not use throttling techniques to limit the number of times an event can be fired in a given period.  🤯 For example, If a user repeatedly performs an action like clicking an "add to cart" button multiple times, it could inflate your 'add to cart' metric and provide an inaccurate view of user behaviour. Tracking state changes helps you avoid counting each click as a separate 'add to cart' event. . . Use a data layer to manage and track state changes effectively. The data layer should hold information about the current state and trigger specific tags based on changes to that state. GA4 allows for custom parameters with events, enabling you to send additional information about the state change (e.g., the old and new quantities). . . Consider a scenario where a user is adjusting the quantity of an item in their shopping cart. Without State Change Tracking: You might send an ‘add_to_cart’ event whenever the user changes the quantity. If the user increases the quantity from 1 to 5, one unit at a time, this might result in 5 separate ‘add_to_cart’ events, leading to duplicate events. . . With State Change Tracking: You can send a single custom event, like ‘cart_quantity_updated’, along with parameters that reflect the old and new quantities. This provides a more accurate view of the user’s actions without creating duplicate events. Tracking state changes rather than sending duplicate events in GA4 can provide a more accurate representation of user interactions on your website.  . . A throttling function is another good method to prevent sending duplicate events to GA4. For example, A throttling function can ensure that the 'purchase' event is not fired more than once when the order confirmation page reloads by a user. This would prevent duplicate 'purchase' events. Note: Also, add a unique transaction ID to each e-commerce event to deduplicate transactions from the same user and to process refunds correctly. . . A quick way to check for duplicate e-commerce events in GA4 is to look at the 'Event Count Per user' metric. A high event count per user can be a sign of duplicate events. For example, It is very unlikely for a typical user to add payment information 23 times repeatedly (see the screenshot below): Note: To make the conversion (key event) counting more accurate, use the 'once per session' counting method.

🚀 Important Update for #GoogleAds Users! 🚀 Google Ads is rolling out a significant change in how Content Suitability works for parked domains starting this October. Here’s what you need to know: 🔹 𝗗𝗲𝗳𝗮𝘂𝗹𝘁 𝗢𝗽𝘁-𝗢𝘂𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘀: New Google Ads accounts will now automatically exclude ads from appearing on parked domains. This means your Search and PMax campaigns won’t show up on these domains by default. 🔹 𝗢𝗽𝘁-𝗜𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗗𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀: If you want your ads to appear on parked domains, you’ll need to manually adjust your Content Suitability settings. LTV/CAC model is severely flawed for ecommerce brands. In theory, it tells How much money are you making from each new customer? For every $1 spent, how many $$$ is generated back? Pretty important question. Right? In practice, both metrics LTV & CAC are flawed in answering this correctly. Both on the acquisition side and on the retention side. Here's why --> CAC Doesn't consider other variable costs It might work for software subscription businesses as other variable costs of delivery are minimal if not zero. In ecommerce, the cost to deliver a physical product includes COGs (cost of goods sold) & 3PL partners (logistics & fulfillment) CAC alone doesn't account for how much it costs to get the product in the customer's hand. --> Unpredictable LTV DTC brands, if not on a subscription or don't have reliable historical subscription data, can't accurately predict the LTV. With scale, LTV mostly goes down. Secondly, most brands don't have cash flows to wait for 6 months or a year for returns. They will run out of business before they realize their LTV. Even if you can predict the LTV safely, if it's taking you more than 1 purchase to break even, the cash cycles will be severely restricted. So LTV: CAC is not telling the right answer. Back to the key question - How much money you are making from each customer? Contribution margin (CM) is a great metric to understand your profits on a single purchase. For a lifetime, you can find the repeat purchase rate in the next 60 or 90 days. Multiply that percentage by your contribution margin on a single acquisition. That's your profit from a single customer. But again repeat purchase is not free. In short, DTC brands should break even on the first purchase or at least in the first month to grow faster. Don't rely on LTV: CAC to judge your marketing efforts, for both acquisition and retention. It might be leading to wrong insights. #dtc #ecommerce Looking to achieve profitable growth. Use a display URL that accurately reflects the destination. Keep it simple, clean and easy to read. - - - 2. Poor use of keywords Keywords are the foundation of your Google ads. Get them wrong and your cost will skyrocket. Keep your prospects and products in mind when you select your keywords. - - - 3. No brand marketing Your Google ads don't just drive traffic. Your advanced Performance Max strategies based on fancy adscripts are worthless when they break. Thankfully, during the weekly Google Ads audits I conduct, I increasingly notice advertisers utilizing advanced scripts to segment PMax or Shopping campaigns. This usually improves the profitability of the campaigns, rather than just filling Google's cash drawer. The disadvantage of using Adscripts is that Google's frequent updates can disable certain APIs or requests, causing your strategy to fail. This is unfortunately occurring on a structural basis. This can happen even with the popular scripts that everyone uses. Fortunately, we receive notifications from these publishers when they detect an issue. 🙏 But, I notice that after the setup is completed once, the scripts or output sheets are often neglected. Last week, we again came across the example below. This advertiser came to us and asked if we could find out why performance has dropped since mid-January. After investigation, we discovered that the script that ensures products are segmented was no longer working properly. Since Google brings updates every week, you as an advertiser must check your setup regularly. If your setup doesn't work for some reason your strategy will 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗽𝘀𝗲. We check our setup once a week and try to enable notifications when we see a drop in X or a certain threshold is reached. This way, in 9 out of 10x you can proactively get ahead of any issues. Our routine: • Check segmentation settings in external tooling (like PH) • Check additional feeds in Google Merchant Center • Check imports in your feed management software • Check error log in your script settings (in gAds) • Check labels in Google Merchant Center • Check feed management rules • Check output spreadsheets Don't know where to start?
