Airport security: Terrorism: Countermeasures: After a terrorist attack near Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport, the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) is all set to introduce stricter entry requirements as part of measures to ramp up security at the airport of the country’s mega city. A massive explosion occurred last month on a road near the airport, killing a total of three people — including two Chinese nationals — and injuring at least 16 others. In response, the police and Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) arrested three terrorists, including a woman, who were involved in a deadly blast, Sindh Home Minister Zia Ul Hassan Lanjar said a day earlier. The decision to tighten security protocols comes in response to growing concerns over safety at one of Pakistan’s busiest airports. Among the proposed changes, private taxi vehicles and their drivers will no longer be permitted to enter the airport premises, with only airport-bound traffic allowed to pass through. In a bid to reinforce physical barriers, the installation of iron gates at the airport entrances is also under consideration. The airport authorities are also taking proactive steps to manage suspicious activity. King Abdul Aziz Port in Dammam Launches TPA Service to Link Saudi Arabia with Chinese Ports and the Pacific Ocean Shipping Arabia, April 26, 2024 — The Saudi Ports Authority "Mawani" has enhanced King Abdul Aziz Port’s global connectivity with the introduction of the TPA service operated by Evergreen, linking Saudi Arabia directly to Chinese ports and the Pacific Ocean. This initiative is designed to facilitate trade and export activities, thereby expanding the Kingdom’s reach into vital international markets. The service addition aligns with Mawani’s strategic objectives to augment port efficiency and bolster infrastructure capabilities. It follows significant infrastructural investments at King Abdul Aziz Port, including the expansion of two container terminals in collaboration with the Saudi Global Ports Company "SGP." This project, funded by over seven billion riyals and executed on a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis, is anticipated to increase container handling capacity to 7.5 million TEUs, reflecting a growth of more than 120%. Connecting Dammam with 11 regional and international ports, the TPA service by Evergreen includes stops at Kelang, Malaysia; Cai Mep, Vietnam; and prominent Chinese ports like Hong Kong, Qingdao, Ningbo, Shanghai, and Yantian, as well as Taipei and Kaohsiung in Taiwan, Um Qasr in Iraq, and Jebel Ali in the United Arab Emirates. Operating on a weekly schedule, this service offers a capacity of up to 6,000 TEUs. King Abdul Aziz Port serves as a crucial logistical node on the Arabian Gulf, linked by rail to Riyadh Dry Port and acting as a primary channel for the influx of goods to Saudi Arabia’s Eastern and Central regions. This role is crucial in the implementation of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS), aimed at establishing Saudi Arabia as a global logistics hub bridging three continents. Harnessing light to detect landmines in war zones🔎 Consortium is developing a landmine detection system able to identify explosives, harnessing far infrared radiation which can penetrate most materials. The technology backed by The National Defence Technology Centre will enable users to find plastic and ceramic landmines buried underground. The team hopes to be able to send the technology to Ukraine, which following the Russian invasion is deemed the most mined nation in the world - experts say that it will take decades to make safe⌚ Our THz Innovation Lab and spinout GLAZE Technologies work closely with DTU Skylab, through which Assistant Professor GLAZE Technologies CEO Simon Jappe Lange gained contact to Anders Dalgaard and Erling Dyrmose, who both have great knowledge about the defence and their technological needs. The idea of ​​using far infrared radiation for landmine detection has been thought of before, but others have not been able to take it out of the lab🌤️ The Terra Salva team have succeeded because the team has the world's smallest and most robust THz system.
