Today we invite you to watch a recording of Contributed Talks from the ML in PL 2023 conference, where Piotr Januszewski talked about the "Mastering MLops at a reasonable scale at allegro".  https://lnkd.in/dEysRRKi In today's competitive e-commerce landscape, Allegro is constantly seeking ways to harness the power of Machine Learning (ML) efficiently. Central to our efforts is the challenge of building ML pipelines that can deliver personalized recommendations to our vast user base. This presentation will share our journey in mastering these pipelines at a scale that's both practical and impactful. While the world of ML offers many tools, working at a "Reasonable Scale" has its hurdles. Unlike tech giants with virtually limitless resources, most enterprises don't have the luxury of processing billions of data points daily, hiring endless talent, or leveraging infinite computing power. At Allegro, we have to be smart with our resources. We often face challenges like ensuring consistent data quality across diverse sources, managing the intricacies of deployment without the luxury of vast dedicated teams, or the need to make quick recommendations with the computing power we have available. Adapting to new ML techniques while keeping our systems efficient is a constant balancing act. This talk will dive deep into the challenges of doing ML at a reasonable scale. Through Allegro's experiences, we aim to show that with the right strategies, even mid-sized operations can achieve great ML outcomes. Piotr graduated with honors his engineering and master's degrees in computer science at the Politechnika Gdańska. He is a research engineer in the Machine Learning Research team at Allegro, where he works on the application of reinforcement learning for recommendation systems. At the same time, he is conducting research for his PhD in deep reinforcement learning at the Politechnika Gdańska. During his scientific career, he had the opportunity to, among others, cooperate with the VGG group at the University of Oxford on the "Toddler-Inspired Active Representation Learning" project and prepared materials and conducted classes on "Reinforcement Learning" at the Uniwersytet Warszawski. While working at Intel Corporation, Piotr also gained experience in implementing drivers for general-purpose computing on Intel GPUs and implementing libraries for Intel's deep learning accelerators. Privately, he is interested in science in general, and space exploration in particular. He likes hard sci-fi movies and books, post-apocalyptic, detective stories, but also space-opera novels. In his free time, he runs, bikes, snowboards, and watches the stars through his Newtonian telescope.

Conferences like the International PHP Conference are splendid opportunities to gain new perspectives - and face new challenges. 🛠️ Programming is essentially about solving problems, and events just like this conference allow us to share experiences and learn from best of the best in the industry. During sessions and workshops, I got to hear real stories about real problems - how they arise, how to solve them - and how to prevent them from reoccurring. 😉 I had the pleasure of attending talks on the latest trends in PHP, code optimization and best practices in system architecture. IT Zdybanka #4 happened more than two weeks ago. But better post late than never, right? 🙈 It was a truly inspiring Ukrainian community event, organised by Victoria Baron and hosted by Roman Riabenskyi in the beautiful Capgemini office, Berlin. There were various topics presented: digital pathology, marketing strategies, and a Telegram chatbot helping Ukrainian refugees navigate through German bureaucracy. 👏🏻 My presentation was about how a hiring process looks from the inside. I showcased its structure, how candidates are assessed, and in the end gave some practical tips for candidates to improve their chances and feel more confident. Judging from the amount of questions I recieved afterwards, job search is a really hot topic in the Ukrainian community in Germany. That's why 👉🏼 Let's see if we can organize a separate event in Berlin dedicated to this topic. Any suggestions about venue, format, speakers, subtopics?
