Today's morning surprised us with a power outage that affected entire Odolańska street. 🚫⚡🚫 We stayed optimistic - most power failures are resolved in quite quick manner. Meetup is not at risk. However, time passed and the fault was still not repaired. It was getting darker and colder. 🥶 We didn't lose heart, we believed that holiday spirit will overcome all obstacles and prevail. But when we realized that electricity won't be back, we had to make a difficult decision - today's meetup have to be cancelled. And each of us have to eat 50 pierogi and drink 3 liters of barszcz. 🥴 We notified all the meetup attendees about cancellation. It was a late notice, but we wanted to save at least some people from unnecessary travel and inevitable disappointment. As we were getting prepared for our miserable supper with sadness-filled pierogi and tearful barszcz on the menu, we heard knocking at the office's door. To our surprise, one after another, all the guests, speakers and attendees started to fill the office. Lack of electricity is not a problem for Ruby enthusiasts. 💪 It wasn't holiday spirit, it was Ruby Community spirit. Kudos to you, guys! 🤩 Ladies and gentlemen, let me present... 🕯️ PLRUG Ruby Warsaw Meetup by candlelight - Unplugged Edition 🕯️

PLRUG Ruby Warsaw Meetup is just around the corner! And we have prepared a real treat for you 🎁 During the meetup there will be a panel discussion between Adam Piotrowski, Steven Baker, Mariusz Koziel and Sergey Sergyenko. The topic will be a surprise, but this lineup guarantees interesting and fierce debate 🔥 We also have more details about Adam's presentation: This won't be yet another presentation about new technology. Nor will it be a recap of top books on architecture - you can read those yourselves. It won’t be a presentation that leaves you inspired by new ideas, but it also won’t be one of those that leaves you feeling down about the state of your project. Get ready for a handful of IT industry stories that should make our hair stand on end, but over time, we just get used to them as part of everyday life. I’ll help you realize that your client and your duct-taped-and-zip-tied project aren’t all that unusual. Together, we’ll think about which dysfunction stems from where and how to prevent them. And if all goes well, we might even laugh about it. Save the date! https://lnkd.in/dt8ZideT #rubyonrails #rubycommunity

We're not slowing down! 🚀 During upcoming Ruby Community Conference in Cracow, Cezary Kłos and Kaja Witek will lead workshop entitled: 🛠️ Deploy with Kamal 2: A Hands-On Workshop 🛠️ We will start the workshop by creating a new Rails 8 application using the “solid” stack and deploying it to a real cloud server. Next, we will explore the scenario of adding Kamal to an existing Rails 7.2 project. We will initialize and configure Kamal. Then, thanks to the new Kamal-proxy, we will deploy it alongside the first application. Following this, we will deploy a staging environment to mirror production settings. To ensure you gain practical experience, we will intentionally break our deployment, providing you with hands-on experience in debugging and recovering from not-so-obvious scenarios. Whether you’re new to containerized deployments or an experienced developer looking to streamline your workflow, this workshop will equip you with the essential skills to deploy and manage your web apps with confidence. On each step we will guide you trough the process and explain the Kamal’s inner-workings. You’ll leave with a deeper understanding of Kamal and the ability to handle deployment challenges effectively! 💪 Workshop registration will start at the beginning of February. ‼️ Remember, the condition for participating in the workshops is purchasing a ticket for the conference! The number of seats is limited! ‼️ https://lnkd.in/dJpiDntp #workshops #rubyonrails #webdevelopment

Have you missed a chance to attend a Hotwire workshop during our last conference in July? Worry not, as Michał and Piotr will conduct another session of this inspiring workshop during upcoming Ruby Community Conference in Cracow! ⚡ 🔥 BUILDING A LIVE KANBAN BOARD WITH RAILS HOTWIRE 🔥 by Michał Łęcicki & Piotr Paweł Witek We will build a fully functional Kanban board application with Rails and Hotwire. During the workshops, you will learn the basics of Hotwire, including Turbo Drive, Frames, Turbo Streams, and Stimulus controllers. We will also show how to design backend-frontend communication for dynamic, modern applications with Rails. The workshop includes short theoretical introductions, practical examples, and tasks. We will progressively enhance the application with Hotwire. This workshop is ideal for those familiar with Hotwire but haven't built a serious app yet. If you're new to Hotwire, don't worry; we'll explain the theory before each task and inspire you to use Hotwire's benefits whenever possible! Workshop registration will start in early February, so stay tuned, as the number of seats is limited. ❗ Remember, the condition for participating in the workshops is purchasing a ticket for the conference! ❗ https://lnkd.in/dJpiDntp #workshops #rubyonrails #webdevelopment

The second article in our series, written by Paweł Strzałkowski, is now available on the blog! 📝 In this post, he explores the practical implementation of Vector Search - a technique for finding items based on semantic similarities rather than exact string matches. Paweł covers the theory behind Vector Search, discusses its application in image recognition, and shares a complete photo search application - all developed in Ruby. Enjoy reading! 💫 https://lnkd.in/dT3s6V98
