We are proud to announce that Phoenix Systems has signed an agreement with the National Centre for Research and Development, through which it will receive about 5 million EUR in funding under the KPO IPCEI CIS program (Important Project of Common European Interest – Cloud Infrastructure and Services) for the development of a European open-source scalable operating system for Edge-IoT. The main project idea is that a single operating system can run both on edge devices with limited computing resources and on advanced devices enabling far-edge processing and tight cloud integration. Another important goal of the project is that a single operating system can support simultaneously multiple of industry verticals by providing industry specific application environments and fulfilling the safety and security standards requirements. As part of the European 8ra (IPCEI-CIS) project, we are collaborating with major high-tech companies: Bosch Research, in the context of real-time critical applications in the Edge Cloud Continuum (DE); Deutsche Telekom, represented by T-Systems International, where Phoenix Systems will develop UAV technology (drone platform based on Phoenix-RTOS with Phoenix-PILOT autopilot) and integrate it with T-Systems autonomous logistics system (DE); Diehl Aviation, represented by its joint venture Diehl Aerospace, on the Flying Edge Concentrator for aerospace industry (DE); Digitale Schiene Deutschland, where collaboration will be focused on expert exchange on development and implementation of an IT/OT secure Safe Computing Platform (SCP) for future digital and automated rail (DE); Engineering Ingegneria Informatica (Engineering Group) with which Phoenix Systems will work on seamless integration of the the Smart Sensor Box into the Computing Continuum (IT); Within the #KicksforEdge (Siemens IPCEI-CIS project Dr. Daniel Horcher) working jointly to create a seamless integration of the Cloud-Edge systems down to constrained Edge devices (Smart Sensor Box) (DE); Fachhochschule Dortmund, with which Phoenix Systems will cooperate on developing methods and platforms for Edge-loT devices testing and diagnostics (DE); OpenNebula Systems, with which Phoenix System will work on orchestrating Edge-IoT deployments across the Computing Continuum (ES); SYSGO - Embedding Innovations, where collaboration will be focused on (among others) Phoenix-RTOS operating with SYSGO's PIkeOS RTOS & hypervisor, development of orchestration components and standardization of developed technologies (DE). #IPCEICIS #NCBR

developer of Phoenix-RTOS - open-source, microkernel-based, real-time operating system for Edge-IoT
Informacje
Phoenix Systems is the developer of the Phoenix-RTOS operating system, designed for the dynamically growing Internet of Things market. Phoenix-RTOS is based on the microkernel architecture and is widely deployed in the Smart Grid devices (smart energy meters, data concentrators) as well as smart gas meters with a very low power consumption. It can scale from a compact version with native API occupying just tens of kilobytes to fully-fledged UN*X-like operating system with rich application interface. Due to its real time capabilities and extremely efficient architecture, Phoenix-RTOS is the perfect platform for IoT applications. Phoenix-RTOS is already ported to various architectures (IA-32, ARMv7, ARM, RISCV). Phoenix Systems is well known not only in Poland but also globally in Europe and Asia due to its highly innovative profile. Since 2018 Phoenix-RTOS is open source available on the GitHub on the BSD license that allows developers to modify the code becoming a part of the growing community built around Phoenix-RTOS.

Phoenix Systems Receives PLN 22 Million from IPCEI-CIS for Phoenix-RTOS Operating System Development Narodowe Centrum Badań i Rozwoju (NCBR) announced the results of the re-evaluation of projects submitted under the IPCEI-CIS development plan (Important Project of Common European Interest – Cloud Infrastructure and Services). This initiative aims to foster the development of cloud and edge technologies, considered strategically important for the EU. The Phoenix Systems project was chosen to receive support. The goal of Phoenix Systems’ project is to develop Phoenix-RTOS, an open-source, next-generation operating system for Edge-IoT devices. This system will enable the Cloud-Edge-IoT Continuum, allowing edge applications integrated with cloud services to run directly on IoT devices. Phoenix-RTOS, originally developed at the Warsaw University of Technology, is already widely used in the energy sector, with over 1.1 million devices using the system, including smart gas meters, energy meters, and data concentrators. With the support from IPCEI-CIS, Phoenix Systems aims to adapt the operating system to meet the needs of sectors like aerospace, space, and the industrial Internet of Things. The project will involve creating in collaboration with European partners reference devices and applications that demonstrate the Cloud-Edge-IoT Continuum. "I am very happy that after many years of work, we have managed to secure funding under IPCEI-CIS for the development of a European operating system for Edge-IoT, which could become the standard in this field. Operating system development is a prestigious branch of computer science that requires deep knowledge of all layers of software and computer architecture. Thanks to IPCEI-CIS, we can advance European foundational technology, which will serve as a response to American and Chinese operating systems for Edge-IoT, and participate in this race," said Pawel Pisarczyk, CEO and author of Phoenix-RTOS.
