CETEF’24 – The round table of digital transformation. MANAGE THE FUTURE!
Informacje
Effective and rapid digital transformation of industry and socio-economic infrastructure is one of the main objectives of the European innovation policy, which was defined by the European Parliament and the European Commission for accomplishment within 2021-2027 framework. The importance of this objective has considerably increased in recent times as a result of the pandemic and the war in Ukraine. More than 150 billion euro in the form of grants and loans has been allocated to the member states from the Recovery and Resilience Facility for the purposes of implementing and accomplishing the objective. Additionally, significant funds have also been allocated for these purposes within the framework of the operational programmes of particular EU member states for 2021-2027. The dynamic development in information technologies has indubitably enabled digitisation of all areas of social and economic life. Nonetheless, it appears to be an insufficient factor in this context. As a matter of fact, digitisation depends largely on the technical level of numerous complementary fields: automatics, robotics, mechatronics, electronics, photonics, as well as smart energy grids and smart transport networks. Carrying out effective digital transformation is impossible without simultaneous development of the above-mentioned disciplines. The objective of the Central European Technology Forum (CETEF’22) is to create an international platform allowing for discussion of the European policy regarding the development of technical and technological fields which are decisive for the success of digital transformation. The participants of the Forum sessions will be stakeholders representing 16 countries of Central Europe.

Yesterday at the Krakow Central European Technology Forum - CETEF'24 I had the honor of delivering a keynote speech on Industry 5.0 and participated in a panel on the role of CE countries in the implementation of EU’s Framework Programmes. 💡 Here’s a summary of some of the most important points: 💚 Industry 5.0 is about aligning technology with societal and environmental goals. By embracing a human-centric, sustainable, and resilient approach, we can drive innovation that benefits both the economy and society. There are several key areas where it can make a significant impact: 1️⃣ Energy Efficiency and Reducing Carbon Emissions: Leveraging AI and smart grids to optimize energy use and significantly cut down carbon emissions. 2️⃣ Circular Economy Practices: Transitioning from a linear to a circular economy by reusing, refurbishing, and recycling materials to minimize waste. 3️⃣ Workforce Well-being: Prioritizing worker safety and well-being with collaborative robots to handle hazardous tasks. 4️⃣ Skill Development: Addressing the skills gap by promoting continuous upskilling and reskilling to ensure our workforce is prepared for the future. 🗣 In our panel I underlined that Central European countries have a unique opportunity to integrate Industry 5.0 into their R&I strategies. By focusing on human-centric technologies, they can enhance collaboration between humans and machines, improving adaptability and efficiency. 💪 The region can leverage its strong industrial base, entrepreneur spirit and tradition of scientific excellence, to advance circular economy solutions, energy-efficient manufacturing, and zero-waste production methods. 🚀 Funding opportunities, such as an increasing number of Horizon Europe grants, support research and innovation, while Research and Technology Infrastructures (RTIs) and Technology Infrastructures (TIs) provide essential capacities and services for accelerating the deployment of strategic technologies. 👩🎓 The region can direct research funding towards training programs in digital skills, robotics, and AI-human collaboration, fostering a culture of lifelong learning. This can help accelerate the transition towards a sustainable and inclusive industry, enhancing competitiveness and resilience in the face of global challenges. 🤝 By fostering partnerships between industry and academia and promoting cross-border cooperation, all European countries can bridge gaps in their R&I ecosystems. This collaborative effort is essential for maintaining the EU's open strategic autonomy and building a knowledge-driven economy. A big thank you to everyone who attended and engaged in the discussion, especially to our moderator: 💶 🇪🇺 Katarzyna Walczyk-Matuszyk and fellow panellists: Adam Piotrowski, Ian Gauci Borda, Beata Lubos, Phd, Michele Andolfo. Your enthusiasm is truly inspiring! Let's continue to push the boundaries and achieve great things together. 🌟
