About us
GS1 is a neutral, not-for-profit organization that develops and maintains the most widely used identification standards that are fundamental to numerous enterprises around the world. The best-known symbol of GS1 standards is the barcode, named by the BBC as one of “the 50 things that made the world economy”. Four decades ago, we started by helping food retailers do business more efficiently and reduce consumer prices. Today, GS1 standards improve the efficiency, safety and visibility of supply chains across physical and digital channels in 25 sectors, including retail, marketplaces, healthcare, transport and logistics, food service, technical industries and humanitarian logistics. Our scale and reach – local Member Organisations (MOs) in 116 countries, 2 million user companies and 6 billion transactions every day – help ensure that GS1 standards create a common language that supports systems and processes across the globe.

🧵 Exploring Future-Ready Solutions in the Textile Industry: GS1 Pakistan had the privilege of visiting Fashion Knit Industries to discuss the transformative potential of the Digital Product Passport (DPP) and recent regulatory shifts in the European region that are reshaping how the global textile industry approaches transparency and sustainability. Our conversation centered on how adopting GS1 standards can facilitate these new developments by enabling traceability, authenticity, and enhanced consumer trust. The DPP concept, aimed at providing comprehensive digital records for products throughout their lifecycle, represents a significant leap toward more sustainable and circular business models. As the European market continues to evolve with stringent requirements, it’s essential for our local industry to adapt and stay competitive. Our collaborative discussions with Fashion Knit Industries mark an exciting step forward in preparing for these changes and embracing innovation that aligns with global best practices.
