🤝 Leveraging local expertise is crucial for aligning Pakistan’s textile production with global sustainability standards. Meaningful change can only be achieved through innovation, collaboration and strategic action. On behalf of the German development cooperation, we organised an interactive #TextileConnect event and brought together industry leaders and Local Service Providers (LSPs) to foster innovation and meaningful collaboration for a sustainable future. The event highlighted 1️⃣5️⃣ innovative solutions from the LSPs addressing key challenges and compliance with global mandates such as the EU Green Deal and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive. Core focus areas included: 🌱 Minimising environmental impact ⚡ Enhancing energy efficiency 🔗 Improving traceability 👩🎤 Promoting diversity and inclusion 📈 Enhancing productivity and competitiveness Our academic partners shared cutting-edge research and innovations in sustainable materials and technologies, connecting theory to practice and paving the way for innovation in the sector. ⚡ The rising energy dispatch from Distributed Generation (DG), especially rooftop solar, is transforming Pakistan’s power landscape but bringing challenges like reverse power flow that destabilises grid power quality.   To address this challenge, #GIZPakistan, on behalf of the German development cooperation, supported Pakistan Solar Association to organise a webinar on "Role of Smart Inverters in Effective Distribution, Grid Management, and Active Power Control" for stakeholders from the power sector. Solar service providers like Huawei and ENcombi showcased innovative inverter solutions that help Distribution Operators (DOs) to manage active power export. On behalf of the German development cooperation, we were happy to collaborate🤝 with the Women Development Department Punjab and bring together key stakeholders from the government, civil society and textile industry to address gender-based violence and human rights, and to promote workplace inclusivity. Highlights of the event included: ✅ Remarks by Mr. Usman Ali Khan, Secretary WDD Punjab, Mr. Mudassar Raza Siddiqi, DG (Textile), Ministry of Commerce, and Ms. Sadia Taimur, Parliamentary Secretary WDD Punjab, emphasising gender equity and inclusive policies for socio-economic growth. ✅ Insights on the German support to promote women’s employment in the textile sector. ✅ Launch of the report “Analysis of Data of Disability Assessment Boards Punjab”. ✅ Panel discussion on “Unfolding Various Facets of GBVH in the Workplace” ✅ Theatrical performance creatively addressing workplace inclusivity and diversity challenges. Shaping a Skilled Future for Pakistan's Youth! 🚀 The first Project Steering Committee meeting of the #TeamEurope's TVET Sector Support Programme (TVET SSP) brought together key stakeholders, including the private sector, from Gilgit Baltistan, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Punjab to discuss progress, challenges, and the roadmap to 2025. Co-chaired by the Executive Director of National Vocational and Technical Training Commission NAVTTC and the Head of Development Cooperation of the European Union in Pakistan, the meeting focused on: 🔹Strategic guidance for impactful reforms. 🔹Standardised and efficient implementation across regions. 🔹Sustainable approaches ensuring long-term success. 🔹Cohesive efforts to transform Pakistan's TVET sector. Celebrating #InternationalMigrantsDay2024 🌍 This year’s theme, “Towards Safer Migration,” emphasises the importance of promoting legal and safe migration pathways while ensuring the rights of migrants are protected. To mark this significant day, we hosted an engaging event that brought together students from leading universities, trainees from vocational institutes, and key stakeholders to highlight the contributions of migrants and the need for informed decision-making in migration journeys. 🌍 Challenging Gender Norms for a Better Tomorrow As part of the global #16DaysofActivism against gender-based violence, #GIZPakistan partnered with local stakeholders to organise interactive sessions in 5️⃣0️⃣ schools and 5️⃣0️⃣ health facilities in Peshawar, Kohat and Nowshera districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. These sessions were conducted with Parent Teacher Councils (PTCs) and Primary Care Management Committees (PCMCs) to ensure community-wide engagement and sustainable awareness. Key Highlights💡: ✅ Inclusion at its core: Teachers, healthcare staff, and community members came together to address critical societal issues. ✅ Promoting positive masculinity: Social organisers facilitated discussions on positive masculinity. ✅ Breaking stereotypes: Through participatory activities, participants reflected on how rigid gender expectations harm mental health and relationships. ✅ Creating safe spaces: The interactive format created a safe space for open dialogue, allowing participants to share personal experiences with a collective commitment to change. It was a pleasure to host the Dutch Ambassador H.E. Henny de Vries at our Urban Cohesion Hub (UCH) in Karachi. Ambassador Vries took a tour of the Hub, met with the beneficiaries and saw different activities through which the UCH is promoting social cohesion and peaceful co-existence between forced displaced Afghans and Pakistani host communities. Key highlights of the visit: 🎨 Inauguration of the Art Room: A new creative space that will empower individuals to express themselves and connect through art. 🍽️ One Dish, One Story: A cultural food stall showcasing both Afghan and Pakistani cuisines, symbolising shared stories and rich traditions. 🎶 Musical Performance: A beautiful ending to a memorable day, bringing together voices from both communities in harmony. The Women Development Department, Government of Sindh recently organised an event on “Empowering Women: 16 Days of Activism in Pakistan's Textile Industry”. 👏 Organised with the support of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the event was attended by representatives from the government, textile industry and civil society. Minister for Women Development Ms. Shaheena Sher Ali and other speakers emphasised the need to address workplace gender violence, which harms women's well-being and economic productivity. 💯 The event concluded with a call to action for industry leaders and policymakers to extend the dialogue and initiatives beyond the campaign.
