DICT Kicks off eLGU and eGovPH app Information Campaign in Region 7 The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Region 7 is hosting the kick-off ceremony for the implementation of Electronic Local Government Unit System (eLGU) alongside the $eGovPH App information campaign on October 21, 2024, at the JPark Island Resort and Waterpark in Mactan Cebu, aims to enhance digital governance among local government units across Central Visayas. The eLGU system is one of the nationwide E-Government initiatives designed to streamline government service delivery through digital transformation. It provides digital platforms for essential services such as business registration, tax payments, and access to public documents, fostering transparency, accessibility, and efficiency in government processes and transactions. The eGovPH App serves as a unified digital platform that facilitates seamless transactions between citizens and government agencies. By consolidating various government services into a single online portal, it enhances connectivity and reduces transaction times for the public. Initially introduced in June 2023 and fully launched by December 2023, the app has already attracted more than 8 million users to date. The eLGU and eGovPH app are among the 25 digital platforms developed by the DICT to advance e-governance and drive digital transformation across the country, with Region 7 fully supporting and cooperating in this nationwide initiative. “The rollout of the eLGU system and the eGovPH App Information Campaign in Region 7 marks a crucial step toward achieving a digitally inclusive government. These efforts are designed to equip local government units with digital tools that optimize service delivery and simplify processes,” said Usec David Almirol Jr., Undersecretary for e-Governance at DICT. Driving digital governance with eLGU and eGovPH App At the heart of E-Government is the DICT’s eLGU (Electronic Local Government Unit) system. It revolutionizes local governance by making the LGUs electronically enabled thereby improving the delivery of public service, promoting transparency in government transactions, and increasing public access to government information services, among others. This system supports the implementation of the Ease of Doing Business and Efficient Government Services Delivery Act of 2018, or R.A. 11032. “The Cebu launch will showcase the eLGU system’s features, encouraging stakeholders in the province to adopt a more digital-first approach to governance," Director Jun Vincent Manuel Gaudan, Director for Management Information System Service at DICT revealed.   The eLGU  acts as a digital gateway that simplifies key government processes, making services like business registration more accessible and efficient. GCash 3rd ImaGnation Innovation Challenge on Sustainability to build new era of fintech leaders To help empower Filipino youth to become well-rounded, globally competitive, and problem-solving future fintech leaders, GCash, the country’s number one finance app, has launched the 3rd ImaGnation: #GCash Innovation Challenge.  This year’s ImaGnation will give Filipino youth a chance to pitch their innovative ideas on how GCash can help address the accessibility of digital financial services to ensure inclusion among its users.This is in line with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas' (BSP) Financial Inclusion agenda for reduced disparities in financial inclusion, digitalization, and broadening access of individuals to financial services. ImaGnation is a 4-day case competition for 3rd-year to 5th-year students of any course from any college or university across the Philippines. The aspiring youth are given the platform to turn their innovative ideas into reality and contribute to the e-wallet’s “Finance for all” vision. To join, students need to form a team of 3 members and create a unique team name. Once done, they can register their team through the official ImaGnation portal at new.gcash.com/imagnation until April 12, 2024. Contestants can also access information on how to submit their pitch 2-3 days after registering on the ImaGnation platform. Afterward, students need to create a video pitch and identify accessibility problems experienced by specific sectors that GCash can address or solve in its current or future states. This should also include a holistic innovation strategy, reflecting at least two Sustainable Development Goals, that determine new product features, marketing executions, or other solutions that address the problems identified. Submission for the video pitch is onApril 16, 2024. The shortlisted contestants, consisting of the top 15 teams, will get mentorship and training sessions from some of the best GCash leaders to help them hone their skills. This includes providing each team extensive business exposure, and networking opportunities that they can utilize as future fintech leaders. The top 15 teams will join the touchpoint on May 3, as well as a face-to-face 2-day boot camp from May 7 to May 8. The finals will be held on May 10, when the top 5 winning teams will be announced. The winning teams and individual members will also win cash and gadgets. GCash Green Transaction Alerts Launched   New feature shows carbon reduced by doing digital transactions #GCash the Philippines’ leading finance app and largest cashless ecosystem has announced its newest update, Green Transaction Alerts, which allows users to see the grams of carbon they reduced by digitally sending money and doing bank transfers.   GCash’s newest feature is the latest innovation to underscore the fintech giant’s commitment to sustainability. In 2019, GCash commissioned the China Beijing Environmental Exchange to compute carbon emissions of manual transactions converted to digital ones. The Green Transaction Alerts make use of the same computations and metrics, allowing users to see their reductions in carbon emissions by transacting digitally. The reductions in carbon emissions are realized when users forgo the consumption of paper and plastic or the use of electricity and transportation when they do their manual transactions. “Sustainability is embedded in the way GCash conducts its business, and we’ve provided ways for our users to see how their actions on the app also contribute to environment-friendly actions that ultimately protect our planet and contribute to a greener future,” stated CJ Alegre, GCash Sustainability Head.   The Green Transaction Alerts complement other in-app sustainability features of GCash, including the award-winning GForest, which allows users to contribute to reforestation efforts through gamification. As of 2024, a total of 2.7 million trees have been planted by GCash, resulting from users’ digital transactions.   “We continue to look for ways to become an even more sustainable company, and more importantly, to provide avenues for Filipinos to take action for the planet - and this is only the beginning as will gradually make these alerts available for other transactions in the coming months.
